Job Description

The John E. Jaqua Law Library is looking for a skilled teacher with a passion for delivering effective, technology-enhanced learning experiences in an active learning environment. The Law Instruction Librarian is a critical member of the Library’s reference team. In addition to sharing in direct research instruction, this position plays a lead role in developing, tracking, and supporting instructional technology to enhance the team’s teaching activities, improve pedagogical methods, and promote legal information literacy within Law School and related University programs. The successful candidate will enjoy the support of highly experienced and collegial library staff, and the warm support of the Law School community. As a member of the UO Libraries system, your career growth as a law librarian will be further enhanced by a rich, multi-disciplinary network of library professionals. The posted salary range for this position is additionally supplemented with the University of Oregon’s robust benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off (visit https://hr.uoregon.edu/benefits for more information).

The Law Instruction Librarian provides instructional and reference services as a member of the reference team. The person in this position will teach basic and upper-level legal research skills; track scholarship and current awareness on pedagogical research, practice, and innovation; and assist in the design and revision of course structure and content. Other responsibilities include development of assessment activities centered on student learning outcomes and research competencies, implementation of instructional initiatives to support new law school programs, and the monitoring and implementation of instructional technologies to enhance the Law Library’s teaching program. The Law Instruction Librarian also works collaboratively with other law-trained librarians to provide reference services for sophisticated, research-oriented faculty members and students in a technological advanced information environment, contributes to collection development, and participates in departmental planning and administration.

The person in this position reports to the senior Law Reference Librarian and is expected to engage in service to the University, UO Libraries, and community through work on committees and similar groups; participate in appropriate professional development activities and organizations to stay current with trends and practices in the field; meet UO Libraries criteria for promotion and retention; and contribute to the University’s goals regarding equity and inclusion.

The Libraries will consider any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, and experience when evaluating candidates; we are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job, and that candidate may be one who comes with relevant transferrable skills from a variety of sources and experiences. If you are interested in applying, we encourage you to think broadly about your background and skill set for the roles.
