Job Description

Job Type: Full-Time

Closing Date: 7/29/2022 or until filled

Purpose: The Design & Production Specialist assists and collaborates with the design team in production of graphics for Douglas County Libraries (DCL). This position helps bring to life creative ideas that customers and the community will interact with on a daily basis. They will aid in design creation for signage, permanent and temporary displays, and event design support from signature to galas. The successful individual has strong attention to detail, effective file preparation and technical layout skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. This role works as an effective member of the Community Engagement team and on cross-departmental teams in collaboration with other professional staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

60% Design Support:

  • Assists in brand compliant design for signage, display, events, print and online promotions.
  • Completes production projects in a timely manner; from large, 3D, museum quality designs to smaller printed materials.
  • Manages multiple projects at one time with creativity and attention to detail.
  • Has strong technical skills in layout and formatting. Able to work from and create templates.
  • Production design and layout knowledge for digital and traditional pre-press file preparation.
  • Manages décor, signage/print and promotional items inventories for distribution on and offsite.
  • Visits different locations to assist and help maintain design installations.
  • Organizes and prepares event design décor for moving and setup.
  • Represent DCL and works at signature events.
  • Learns new software packages quickly and with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Works well with others in a team atmosphere. Is adaptable, versatile, a self-starter and deadline driven.
  • Communicates well, is mature in behavior, and respectful to DCL staff, customers, and vendors.

40% Administrative:

  • Manages maintenance on large format printer; including cleaning, checking inventory and restocking, scheduling repairs, and ordering supplies.
  • Assists with ordering décor supplies for events.
  • Assists with ordering printed materials for the district.
  • Manages and orders office supplies for the Community Engagement team within the given budget.
  • Attends and engages in department and division meetings by contributing ideas and thoughtful feedback. Communicates openly and professionally.
  • Coordinates and distributes materials, via the courier; including posters, signage, packaged materials, and miscellaneous items.
  • Stimulates collaborative, seamless relationships with co-workers, thereby contributing to a cohesive organization that supports a positive culture and achieves strategic plan.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three years graphic design production experience
  • Fluency in MS Office, and other industry related software.

Preferred:

  • Expert knowledge and use of computers in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite in both Apple and PC platforms

A combination of experience and education will be considered.

Physical Requirements: Ability to drive between various branches. Must have the physical ability, stamina, mobility and manual dexterity to support a 7-day a week operation. Work at computer work-stations repetitively and for extended periods. Participate in meetings and events at various locations and at varied times throughout the day. Ability to read as small as 8pt font.
