Job Description

The Katharine Brush Library at The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Connecticut is searching for an enthusiastic, team-oriented, and patron-focused Evening Library Assistant. General duties and responsibilities are monitoring students during evening study hall, serving at the information desk, and assisting library patrons. The Evening Library Assistant will work two weekday evenings. This position is 10 hours a week during the academic school year and begins in September 2022.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitoring students during evening study hall
  • Serve at the information desk and assist library patrons
  • Answer questions concerning library resources and services, including use of the library catalog, databases, and discovery layer
  • Administer and maintain aspects of the print collection
  • Assist in preparing timely and relevant library displays
  • Supporting role in cataloging, including adding, editing, and deleting catalog information in MARC record format into Koha (integrated library system)
  • Responsibility for collection maintenance, including shelving library material, shelf-reading, shelf shifting, and weeding
  • Special and other projects or tasks assigned as necessary as they pertain to the goals and objectives of the library

Qualifications and Skills

  • A four-year bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a public, academic, or independent school library
  • Experience using an integrated library system
  • Proficiency in other types of library technology, especially library databases and discovery products
  • Positive attitude, strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and an ability to work independently as well as in a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a diverse, collaborative environment and interact effectively with faculty, staff, colleagues, and academically motivated high school students
