Summary:

Develops creative concepts for a variety of media platforms and audiences to meet the Library District’s strategic objectives. Provides visual materials to promote the Library through event and service marketing, public relations, and communications initiatives. Manages design projects, influences marketing decisions, and oversees visual/artistic application of Library branding in print, digital, and specialty services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following

  • Create a welcoming environment for all patrons and staff that fosters equity, diversity and inclusion by seeking to understand, respect, and value individual differences.
  • Collaborates with Communications Manager, library staff, and external stakeholders to execute original campaigns using a variety of formats and across media platforms to meet strategic objectives.
  • Leads the development of creative concepts by gathering staff input, conducting research, and observing market trends and best practices.
  • Manages large design projects including developing and/or gathering project parameters and technical specs; creating project timelines; working within set budgets; scheduling production and preparing files; managing the review and approval process; soliciting vendor bids as needed; reviewing final proofs for production; and scheduling delivery.
  • Produces and organizes design assets for campaigns and projects including, but not limited to, logos, posters, social media, newsletters, flyers, advertisements, identity collateral, educational outreach materials, giveaway items, basic video, templates, signage, and environmental graphics.
  • Ensures that collateral reflects EDI values and meets accessibility standards.
  • Educates internal and external clients on the design process, available tools, and expectation of service based on overall Library District priorities. Reviews staff-created materials for brand consistency.
  • Oversees and guides the visual implementation of the Poudre River Public Library brand by directing use of the Library logo and branded assets, and making recommendations to keep the Library’s image relevant.
  • Supports staff communication through tools and training.
  • Oversees vendor relationships related to design and printing.
  • Researches and recommends purchases for technology services, stock imagery and promotional goods; places orders and reviews proofs and invoices.
  • Contributes to improving department workflow and processes, including establishing practices and writing procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the ethics, values, and foundational principles of the library profession.
  • Knowledge of the fundamental values of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI).
  • Ability to brainstorm conceptual approaches to campaigns and take approach through the design process to develop a strategically-grounded and relevant design.
  • Advanced knowledge and use of Adobe Creative Suite products, specifically InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat.
  • Advanced knowledge of graphic design, layout, and production techniques and trends.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage a high-level of tasks and projects in a high-volume production setting. Ability to weigh goals and objectives and make strategic decisions about time & resource use.
  • Intermediate knowledge of general office equipment and software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, plus collaboration software including Microsoft Teams, Outlook and SharePoint.
  • Knowledge of collaborative file sharing and project management tools such as Asana.
  • General knowledge of photography and video, digital photo manipulation, and animation production.
  • Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and web design and the ability to update and add content to secondary web sites using WordPress.
  • Knowledge and experience with marketing, advertising and promotion strategies.
  • Knowledge of social networking platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and others. Understand graphic format requirements of each platform for the best quality screen display.
  • Knowledge of and experience with typography, typesetting, and font file management; printing paper; color correction; scanners and printers. Experience with off-set printing, including raster image processing, four color process and spot color file preparation.
  • Knowledge of digital signage management platforms.
  • Understands visual accessibility standards, communication conventions, and copyright laws.
  • Ability to research and write in a variety of formats; proof and edit written materials.
  • Ability to develop computerized spreadsheets, charts and graphs.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with staff and partner organizations.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Commercial Art, or related field from an accredited college or university; minimum of three years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced experience with Adobe Creative Suite.

Language Abilities:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Reasoning Abilities:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates and Licenses:

Valid driver's license.

•                     Work a varied schedule at various locations, including weekends and evenings.
