Job Description

Wage: $18.08 - $21.25 Hourly

Job Type: 32 Hours

Some evening and weekend availability is required. Locations may vary and be updated if additional vacancies become available.

Purpose: The Volunteer Services Coordinator provides expertise on all functions of volunteer coordination to administer the successful placement and performance of volunteer talent at the seven Douglas County Libraries (DCL) branches. This position serves as an advocate for volunteerism districtwide both internally and within the community, and collaborates with teams to determine and advise on volunteer needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

55% Volunteer Coordination:

  • Recruits, orients and trains volunteers for internal and outreach volunteer positions, including ongoing shifts, programs, and one-time events. This includes, but is not limited to, teen volunteers, community volunteers, court-ordered volunteers, and volunteers associated with local programs.
  • Provides supervision and support to volunteers once placed, assuring volunteers are supported for both the volunteer and the district needs.
  • Collaborates with branch staff to determine appropriate volunteer task assignments in alignment and consistent with determined districtwide best practices.
  • Plans and participates in recognition and appreciation events for volunteers at a branch and district level.
  • Seeks and manages additional team projects to create a “premium” experience supporting volunteerism at DCL and in the surrounding community.
  • Educates staff and implements volunteer opportunities consistent with a national Service Enterprise certified volunteer program.
  • Addresses requests for volunteer reassignments, problem solving and terminations, in conjunction with direct supervisor.
  • Exhibits resolve, creativity and imagination to supervise volunteer services activities for the branch.

35% Administrative Tasks:

  • Oversees district volunteer-run services for guidance, material management, and districtwide consistencies.
  • Serves as a liaison with local volunteer organizations and agencies.
  • Maintains activity log and volunteer data for district-level reports.
  • Attends and actively participates in district-wide Volunteer Services meetings.
  • Leads administration of Volunteer Management Systems and maintains accurate information.
  • Communicates effectively with staff and teams.

10% Technical Performance:

  • Maintains expert knowledge of Volunteer Management Systems, Microsoft Office Products and DCL information databases.
  • Learns new technology that is introduced in the industry and the organization, as needed.

Performs other work duties as assigned.

Required:

  • Associate degree
  • Two years previous library experience and/or volunteer services experience

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree

A combination of experience and education will be considered.

Physical Requirements: Must have a reliable method of transportation between all DCL locations. Must have the physical ability, stamina, mobility and manual dexterity to support a 7-day a week operation. Work at computer work-stations repetitively and for extended periods. Participate in meetings and events at various locations and at varied times throughout the day. Ability to read as small as 8pt font.
