Job Summary

The University Libraries encourage applications for Libraries Services Specialists! These positions provide user centered customer service at multiple Norlin Library and Gemmill Library service points. These positions support the student staff on the weekends/mornings or evenings/weekends. The position works across multiple services to provide staff coverage as needed. Ensures the safety of Libraries' patrons and staff, and the security and proper use of the buildings’ properties and collection materials. Hires, trains and leads student employees, deploying them as needed to supervise entrances, conduct hourly rounds and enforce building policies. Ensure the proper opening and or closing of the building as required.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Provide user centered customer service and oversight of student employees:

  • Staff in-person service points in Norlin Library or Gemmill Library.
  • General patron services - wayfinding, circulation, printing, scanning, research assistance, materials access, (using stacks, microform machines, etc.), and appropriate referrals.
  • Able to assist with other library services and routine patron account needs (study rooms, reserves, etc.).
  • Explain Libraries and campus policies to patrons and addresses security concerns for patrons and employees.
  • Oversee/lead students on Norlin or Gemmill service points during morning/evening and weekend hours.
  • Work closely with other service point supervisors to ensure successful scheduling and collaboration.
  • Train student personnel on service point policies and procedures and work closely with student supervisors to provide feedback on training needs.

Collaborate with other Section and Team Members and other services partners:

  • Supervise and evaluate current services, procedures, practices, and documentation for improvements.
  • Make suggestions and recommendations when vital.
  • Work closely with Norlin or Gemmill Services by providing support for circulation.
  • Stay up to date with any changes.

Other duties as assigned.

What You Should Know

  • There are 3 fully in-person positions, one for each shift option.
  • These positions can operate on various schedules, listed below.
    • Norlin Library Evening/Weekend shifts are typically 3 - 11 pm Thursday, Monday; 10 - 6 Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
    • Gemmill Library Evening/Weekend shifts are typically 12 - 8 Sunday - Thursday.
    • Norlin Library Security Morning/Weekend shifts are typically 10 - 6 Saturday, Sunday, week days 7 - 3 or 8 - 4.
    • During intersessions, summer and breaks, hours scheduled shift based on building operational hours.
  • All University of Colorado Boulder employees are required to comply with the campus COVID-19 vaccine requirement.  New employees must provide proof of vaccination or receive a medical or religious exemption within 30 days of employment.

What We Can Offer

  • The annual salary for this position is $38,000.
  • Additional Compensation Details:
  • Shift differential is available, as follows:
    • Weekend shift differential is 20%.
    • Second shift differential of 7.5% (Shall be paid for all hours worked when half or more of the scheduled work hours fall between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday).

What We Require

  • One year of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
  • Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must be a Colorado Resident.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Experience working in an academic library setting.
  • Experience using integrated library software circulation modules (ILS).
  • Supervisory experience.
