Job Description

Western Colorado University invites applications for an enthusiastic, collegial, innovative, and student-centered Education and Research Librarian. Reporting to the Director of Library Services, the successful candidate provides vision and direction for Western’s library instructional and reference services, including the development and delivery of Western’s information literacy and support for online learning programs.

Responsibilities:

The Education and Research Librarian leads in the design, delivery, and assessment of information literacy instruction to undergraduate students in the liberal arts, sciences, and professional programs, as well as graduate programs; the successful candidate also assists in the development and support of online learning.

The Education and Research Librarian explores and implements innovative teaching methods and technologies to advance and expand the information literacy program across campus areas, while also raising the campus profile of the library and its resources as a partner in facilitating student success.

This position promotes diversity, equity and inclusion through outreach and campus relationship building; provides reference service and research assistance to students and faculty through in-person consultations, chat, email, and videoconference; participates in the evaluation, selection and deselection of print, media and digital resources for a diverse student population.

Minimum Qualifications: MLS/MLIS Degree from an ALA-accredited institution; professional experience in instruction and reference, preferably in an academic library setting; outstanding communication, critical thinking, and creative problem solving skills; ability to work in a service-oriented, collaborative, collegial, respectful, team-based environment, with the ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of and familiarity with ACRL standards; instructional design certification or experience; experience with emerging technologies and/or social networking software as they apply to enhancing library services; evidence of initiative and innovation in library services.

Benefits & Additional Compensation Info

Compensation: $46,000-$49,000, depending on experience. Position is eligible for an excellent benefits package including health and dental insurance plans with low co-pays and low out of pocket maximums, generous paid time off, a shared contribution retirement plan and, following one year of employment, tuition benefits.
