MEDFORD LOCATION


 

FULL-TIME/40 HOURS PER WEEK


 

$24.06 TO $30.14 PER HOUR

THE POSITION

The ILS (Integrated Library System) Administrator holds the primary responsibility of the day-to-day monitoring, maintenance, and ongoing development of the library's ILS platform (Koha) and Discovery layer (Aspen) and acts as the primary contact for integrated library system vendor support. This includes supporting staff systemwide to ensure accuracy, reliability, and usability of the ILS, and collaborating with other departments throughout the system to identify and coordinate the resolution of server and application-level issues in support of library services.


 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

•   Works with service provider, ByWater Solutions, to coordinate upgrades, enhancements, and bug fixes for Koha, the integrated library system, and Aspen, the discovery layer interface.

•   Manages security access and permission levels for staff in Koha.

•   Maintains the ILS, adjusting settings, etc, to ensure efficient, reliable, and responsive functionality

•   Provides excellent and timely internal customer service, responding to staff questions, concerns, and help requests.

•   Collaborates with the Technical Services Supervisor and Library IT teams.

•   Serves on the Library Circulation Committee and various other committees as needed.

•   Collaborates with public services departments and Rogue Community College staff to review and prepare for the improvements, maintaining contracts, coordinating planned maintenance, and arranging support calls for ILS- related systems.

•   Manages the integrations between the ILS and other third-party products including self-checkout machines, discovery layer (public catalog, Aspen), Library of Things catalog, and interlibrary loan (ILL) system.

•   Maintains the Aspen Discovery layer, integrating features such as banners, placards and library events, into the interface.

•   Creates and maintains documentation on ILS functionality to help streamline processes, and trains staff on specific functions of the ILS

•   Serves as primary vendor contact to other systems integrated with the ILS such as interlibrary loan and library of things catalog.

•   Represents JCLS in the Koha community and other user groups.

•   Ensures compliance with library security and privacy policies in the ILS and associated systems.

•   Generates statistical data and reports to provide timely data and analysis to appropriate decision makers.

•   Regular attendance.

•   Perform other duties as assigned.


 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

•   Knowledge of ILS software and discovery layers

•   Knowledge of library operational processes

•   Knowledge of library catalog organization and indexing

•   Knowledge of standard library operating procedures and terminology

•   Knowledge of SQL coding

•   Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to construct logical and innovative solutions to complex technical problems.

•   Demonstrated proficiency in use of Microsoft Excel and ten-key by touch skills;

•   Self-starter with intellectual curiosity to investigate new solutions on their own

•   Ability to perform work with considerable independent judgment and initiative

•   Ability to communicate with internal and external customers

•   Ability to manage and organize projects

•   Ability to use computers and other office equipment effectively and efficiently;

•   Ability to create necessary systems requirements and specifications


 

QUALIFICATIONS


 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1.   Bachelor's degree from a fully accredited institution in computer science, computer systems engineering, software engineering, or other relevant fields of study.

2.   Two years of library experience.

3.   One year of library system administration experience.


 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

•   Master's degree from an ALA accredited institution in Library and Information Science, OR Equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties as described.


 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES

•   Criminal background check required.

•   Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 per JCLS Board Policy.
