Job Description

The Librarian manages all aspects of the library’s digital resources to ensure access and designs, develops, maintains, and evaluates web-based interactive content and tutorials to improve user experience and support integration of library resources into the Learning Management System; teaches information literacy, provides direct user support and other library services and operates as a collaborative member of the Library team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Serves as system administrator and manages and supports the library’s enterprise applications, including but not limited to: digital/electronic resources, discovery tools, and ILS (Integrated Library System), electronic resource authentication, and library web applications; ensures access and ongoing maintenance of the Library’s licensed digital resources and manages the life cycle of these resources. Researches and analyzes products and offers, sets up product trials, coordinates electronic subscription changes and renewals. Creates and maintains procedure manuals and documentation for position responsibilities.
  2. Establishes and maintains the availability of resources through the Library's OPAC and Discovery Tool and coordinates the activities needed to support user access and discovery of e-resources, including advance troubleshooting for patrons and staff. Maintains authentication protocols, specifically the proxy configuration files, for electronic resources. Updates and customizes interfaces for electronic resource access and discovery. Establishes relationships with vendors, publishers, and consortia in order to proactively address ordering, access, and performance issues. Identifies, evaluates and stays current with emerging trends, resources, practices and standards in electronic resource management, usage statistics, data management, access and discovery to enhance library services.
  3. Responds to reference queries submitted via email, phone, or chat in a timely manner.
  4. Initiates, designs, and delivers course-related and general information literacy instruction tutorials both synchronously and asynchronously and develops content utilizing a variety of delivery modes for face-to face and online instruction which includes in-person classroom instruction and modules inside our LMS (Learning Management System)
  5. Collaborates with departments to support digital initiatives that enhance our instruction program and integration of databases into curriculum and LMS; develops technology-based training and support for use of our information resources through in person and web-based tutorials.
  6. Manages electronic interlibrary loan services and processes interlibrary loan/document delivery using OCLC or other as needed. Serve as backup for physical interlibrary loan services.
  7. Catalogs and processes physical items for circulation and manages catalog and database clean-up projects. Manages the Library’s course reserve materials and collaborates with other Librarians and staff to catalog and process physical items for circulation. Investigates, troubleshoots, and corrects holdings, access, and technical issues, collaborating with library staff, IT staff, and vendors.
  8. Provides library instruction, orientation, and training to faculty, students and staff on library services and website navigation and outreach services to other departments and campuses, such as Ask-A-Librarian with TRIO in collaboration with the director.
  9. Provides circulation and help desk services and support and acts as backup for other library staff when needed.
  10. Contributes to the maintenance, development, and troubleshooting of the Library’s online presence such as, web pages, social media, databases, online tutorials, and LibGuides as part of the library team
  11. Compiles statistical data for annual and special reporting, grant purposes, or other projects. Supports analysis of electronic resources usage. Maintains tools for statistical compilation. Monitors electronic resources with appropriate security measures. Contributes to library annual reports. Maintains and regularly reports accurate statistics and other records pertaining to departmental assessment.
  12. Serves as a training resource and role model for student employees and assists with supervision as needed. Collaborates with library staff to identify tasks and work activities for student employees and resolve related problems.
  13. Performs other duties assigned by the Library Director.
  14. Operates within the framework established by CWC’s policies, procedures, and practices and ensures that all activities are conducted within the established College policies, FERPA guidelines, and other applicable laws.

Additional Info & Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Experience
    • Three years of directly related professional work experience, preferably in an academic setting.
    • Two years’ experience teaching, preferably working with adults.

  • Equivalency Statement
    • Equivalent combinations of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Desired Qualifications
    • Master’s Degree from regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
    • Academic library experience
    • Familiarity with Canvas or another LMS
    • two to five years of recent professional or high-level paraprofessional experience in academic library technical services especially in: acquisitions, electronic resources management, electronic resources troubleshooting, and/or license preparation
