Job Description

Summary:

The Patron Services Librarian is responsible for adult services which includes, but not limited to, collection development, reader’s advisory, and instruction. A major focus for this position is the planning, promotion and implementation of adult programming.  The Patron Services Librarian works with both patrons and staff to provide quality service, programs and materials based on community needs.

Hours: Full-time 40 hours with benefits; schedule will include weekdays, nights and some weekends.  Salary Range $45,136 to $52,208.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Selects materials for acquisition in the areas of fiction, audio, video and e-content as governed by the collection development policy and manages a budget in these areas.
  • Plans, coordinates, implements and evaluates library programs to meet community needs, expressed or perceived.
  • Provides reference, referral and readers’ advisory assistance to the public.
  • Instructs the public and staff in the use of the library collections and a wide variety of information tools and resources in all formats.
  • Participates in community outreach, delivering library classes, programs, and services.
  • Keeps current with new trends, innovations, technologies, techniques and materials in the library profession.
  • Attends professional meetings, seminars and conferences as continuing education.
  • Has an in-depth knowledge of books, films, and authors as it relates to the community needs.
  • Participates as a member of the Library Management Team.
  • Assists with data gathering for reports and other tools for assessing library needs.
  • May make recommendations and assist with cataloging materials according to accepted professional and consortium standards.
  • Assists and oversees circulation operations to guide staff in the implementation of policies and procedures as it applies to patrons and the use of the library’s collection.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Ability to:  Be accurate, thorough and timely in the completion of work assignments. - Keep current with new trends, innovations, technologies, techniques and materials in the library profession. - Learn and apply a working knowledge of library operations, procedures and policies. - Train, coach and mentor others. - Work well with others. - Maintain consistent and punctual attendance. - Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job including: -lift and transport 10-20 lbs. occasionally; up to 40 lbs. infrequently. -Reach shelves from six feet high to floor level; - Move and arrange furniture.

Additional Info & Requirements

Qualifications: A candidate for this position requires an MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited library school, as well as a minimum of 3 years of public library experience in reader’s advisory, programming, collection development and managerial experience.  Strong computer background including experience with library related technology.
