Job Description

GENERAL PURPOSE:  Supports the information, outreach and engagement functions of the Loveland Public Library by producing and editing promotional and educational materials to increase engagement and awareness of library programs and services, facilities, special events, and classes. Communications will include both digital and print promotional pieces, and will utilize social media platforms, online video channels, and the Library website.  This position will work an occasional weekend or night shift at the front desk.  

The salary range for this position is $20.34- $29.47 per hour with a hiring range of $20.34 - $24.90,depending on qualifications and experience.  

Position will close to applicants on: Wednesday, 10/12/22 at 12:00 P.M. M.S.T.

                                       This is a 20 hour per week, benefitted position.

Loveland Public Library, located in the heart of Loveland, serves a population of 77,000 from a beautiful LEED Gold Certified building. The recently remodeled and expanded facility was designed with art-inspired elements from the surrounding Rocky Mountains and Big Thompson River. A large-capacity public computer lab, learning center and creator space welcome over 45,000 patrons each year. A rich array of programs and services including bilingual storytimes, writing workshops, cultural celebrations, a used bookstore, a whimsical children’s area and a YOUmedia lab for teens make Loveland Public Library a destination for locals and visitors alike. Partnerships with organizations serving diverse populations support the library’s mission to inform, inspire and engage a strong community through outreach, classes, afterschool programs, and technology access

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Manages the library brand and ensures standardization.
  • Creates and edits visual and written content to promote library events and programs.
  • Produces, creates, and edits videos using digital multimedia tools.
  • Works in collaboration with City departments to highlight Library services and community wide events.
  • Designs and updates informational materials, including but not limited to: rack cards, brochures, booklets, posters, monthly event guide, promotional and educational pieces, etc.
  • Publishes, enters, and updates content to the library’s web site including but not limited to: calendar listings, news, videos, data and information, documents, images, and forms.
  • Assists and oversees the library’s social media profiles and presence, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, NextDoor, and LinkedIn.
  • Manages the library’s social media channels including content development, social media campaigns, and other marketing and outreach efforts.
  • Partners with other library staff to conceptualize and plan marketing for services, programs, and special events.
  • Tracks analytics and creates reports detailing effectiveness of communications campaigns.
  • Builds and maintains relationships and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Serves as a liaison and performs outreach to other City departments and the Friends of the Library to coordinate communications.
  • Regularly collaborates with the City Communications and Engagement Office to support strategies for community messaging.
  • Serves as a member of the Citywide Communications and Engagement steering committee.
  • Serves on other Library and City committees as appropriate.
  • Performs other public information, communication, and engagement functions as needed.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES:

This position is not responsible for supervision of City employees, but may provide direction and oversight to interns and/or temporary or part time employees.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Knowledge of social media platform management such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Nextdoor, Twitter, and others.
  • Proficiency and advanced working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud software suite.
  • Technical knowledge of graphic design and video production, with ability to use editing software to produce and package finished video and photo content.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
  • Knowledge of basic journalism, communication, or public relations with demonstrated skill in writing and editing.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize work, and meet deadlines.

Education and/experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, graphic design, marketing or, a closely related field.
  • Two years of experience in marketing/communication positions, with emphasis on digital marketing, required.
  • A combination of education and experience may substitute for the degree on a year for year basis.

Material and equipment directly used:

  • Digital cameras such as DSLR and various camera technology.
  • Adobe Creative Suite or similar design software.
  • Other software designed for video editing and production.
  • Multi-function printer with finishing applications.
  • Large format printer.
  • Personal computer, standard office equipment, and supplies.
  • Lighting and audio equipment.

Working environment/physical activities: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to travel within the City of Loveland and adjacent areas and carry equipment up to 50lbs as needed to perform essential job functions.  Work may be performed indoors or outdoors in inclement weather conditions.  Work may involve sitting, standing, knealing, stooping, reaching walking. Work requires manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination.
