Job Description

The Town of Vail is now hiring an Operations Manager for the Vail Public Library!

Expected Hiring Range: $80,473 - $96,567 *Dependant on Education, Experience and Qualifications

The Town of Vail Library Operations Manager provides management, supervision, and administration of the library to provide exceptional services to library patrons in accordance with library policy. Serves as the liaison for technical services, technology, and reference service functions.  This role serves as a leadership member of the library team and is involved in budget proposal and management, short/long range planning, program review and policy development and implementation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works alongside library staff at the Service Desk handling check-ins, check-outs, renewals, Reader’s Advisory, Reference assistance, and provides Vail visitors and guests with local tourist information, etc.  Works additional hours at Service Desk on an as-needed basis.  
  • Supervises, trains and manages library staff including but not limited to: developing training documents; training staff on library policies and procedures; and responding to staff inquiries and complaints. 
  • Oversees scheduling to ensure Service Desk is adequately covered during library hours.
  • Responsible for all Library related technology; including but not limited to: troubleshooting, website updates, email and listserv responses, and Town of Vail devices, networks, and peripherals.   
  • Initiates, plans, and develops projects related to new initiatives.  
  • Performs duties in other areas of the library and participates in various special projects, as needed. 
  • Oversees Collection Development and Management.
  • Serves as the library’s representative on a variety of committees, events, and task forces both locally, regionally and state-wide. 
  • Collects and analyzes a variety of statistics for the Annual Report to the State Library. 
  • Keeps abreast of industry standards and resources, responsible for special projects, and may serve as Director of Library Services, in their absence. 
  • Provides Proctoring service, as needed. 
  • Serve the citizens and guests of the Town of Vail by abiding by all Town of Vail core values. 
  • Perform job in accordance with all Town of Vail safety practices.

Qualified applicants must possess:

  • Knowledge of Reference & Circulation-related functions.
  • Extensive working knowledge of technological resources and applications for library services.
  • Ability to work effectively & communicate with library staff as well as patrons of all ages in a pleasant, courteous manner.
  • Knowledge of current trends and emerging technologies in Public Service in a library setting.
  • Knowledge of standard library procedures, current info technology, database search capabilities, library procedures and policies.

In addition to the above, qualified candidates must also meet the following requirements: 

  • Masters Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution is required.
  • Five (5) years of professional librarian experience is required.
  • Two additional years of supervisory and program management experience in a public library setting, is required.
