Job Description

The Forest Park Branch Library is one of the busiest in our beautiful city! Help set the vision for the branch and play an important role in carrying it out. The branch is a historic Carnegie library building with a Community Room for programming and performances. Outside you'll find a Reading Garden, our neighborhood partner the Forest Park Middle School, and, at the end of the block, the entrance to a 700+ acre gem of a public park. Branch staff work closely with local schools, agencies welcoming new Americans, and other community groups. See inside here. The annual salary is $58,622.00. Apply by Sunday, November 20, 2022 at 11:59 pm Eastern

The Supervisor at our Forest Park Branch Library is responsible for assisting the Branch Manager in the everyday functioning of the library. This includes staff supervision, public interaction, programming, facility management, and administrative duties. Work is performed with latitude in the exercise of independent initiative and judgment and in collaboration with the Branch Manager. Supervision is exercised over a team of six people. The Supervisor engages with the community, supervises and helps staff the reference and public service areas, plans and implements programming, and oversees the building and reports any facility problems.

We're looking for candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and the completion of an American Library Association-accredited Masters of Library Science. A minimum of three years of professional library experience is desired, including some supervisory education or experience. You'll need an excellent customer service orientation, and a "turned outward" approach to community engagement is ideal. Bilingual abilities desirable (English and Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, Arabic, Somali, Dari, or other community language). The City of Springfield has a residency requirement and allows new hires up to a year to establish residency. When you apply here, please upload a cover letter so we can get to know you.

Benefits & Additional Compensation Info
