Collection Development Librarian
Role:
Selects materials and develops the collection.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
25% - COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT – Responsible for selection of materials as part of a centralized collection development by evaluating and analyzing various collection areas, works collaboratively with Librarians and other public services staff, and develops the collection in accordance with the goals of the collection development policy in order to provide a collection that meets the community’s needs.
20% - MATERIALS SELECTION – Identifies materials for purchase by reading reviews on materials, reviewing best seller lists, patron requests, staff suggestions, collection analysis results, meets with vendors and orders materials for the collection.
20% – COLLECTION ANALYSIS – Creates selection lists, hold lists, circulation and other reports, and analyzes statistical data in order to determine collection
improvement strategies.
15% - COLLECTION MAINTENANCE – Provides training and support for the weeding report process, evaluates donations and damaged/missing items in order to keep collection current and useful.
5% - COLLECTION PROMOTION – Creates reading lists, bookmarks, brochures and other marketing materials in order to promote materials in the collection.
5% - BUDGET – Monitors assigned budget area for expenditures in order to spend allocated dollars on materials for collection.
10% - OTHER DUTIES – Participates in meetings and activities and assists the Supervisor with departmental projects to ensure the smooth operation of the department.
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
Master of Library and Information Science
Experience:
Three years’ experience providing public service in a public library setting and/or working with library collections, selecting materials and using vendor databases
Experience with centralized collection development processes (preferred)
