Job Description

As our Technology Specialist for our libraries you will help to make technology accessible to our patrons so that they can be confident using technology.

Every day you will be assigned to one of our library branches where you will be assisting patrons in-person with their technology questions. You will be trained to help manage the 3D print service. You will also be trained to provide support for various district technology hardware/software issues as they come up. You will be part of a team that communicates with each other by chat or email to collaboratively meet the community's tech needs.

To thrive in this job, you must enjoy teaching others how to fix technology (could be devices, software issues or other technical issues) troubleshooting the issue, learning the fix on the spot and walking a patron through the fix so that the patron learns throughout the process.

You also must have a desire to make a difference in the lives of our patrons, and commitment to making sure the problem is solved in its entirety, following up whenever something needs it and finding creative ways to get people help, with ability to set appropriate boundaries to curb problematic patron behavior. If you are the frequent go-to tech person in your family, or you've taught tech skills to others this may be the job for you.

You'll need tenacity in finding answers to tricky tech problems - an unwillingness to give up until you find the solution.

You have a team-focused attitude. You extend support and kindness to colleagues while acting independently with minimal oversight and take initiative to learn on your own.

You are reliable and on-time and know the impact when you're not. You read schedules and can interpret changes and where to go next.

We are always looking to expand the reach of our service so if you are proficient in Spanish, Russian or Arabic we encourage you to apply.

You must have:

  • One year of technology-related experience, or six months of technology-related experience and a bachelor's degree
  • One year of customer service or teaching experience, or six months of customer service or teaching experience and a bachelor's degree
  • Demonstrated intermediate aptitude for technology/troubleshooting skills.
  • Patience and aptitude for working with patrons of all backgrounds and skill levels
  • Ability to find answers to things you don't know.
  • Positive contributor and supportive team member and invested in the success of teammates.
  • Ability to work all weekend days
