Job Description

TECHNOLOGY AND WORKFORCE TRAINING INSTRUCTOR

Key Purpose/Summary: 

This position has three primary responsibilities: i) provide support to the Rhode Island Tech Hub for Adult Education, ii) provide technology instruction to adult learners, and iii) assist the education department in evaluating the impact of training programs.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities: 

Direct Support for Rhode Island Tech Hub for Adult Education

  • Collaborate with Tech Hub Coordinator in facilitating professional learning opportunities such as learning circles and software training
  • Assist in developing and delivering technology-related professional development opportunities
  • Conduct training needs assessments to determine appropriate programming and training opportunities
  • Deliver technical support to programs
  • Research emerging technologies and burgeoning practices for distance and blended learning
  • Respond to support tickets for learning software and riadulted.org accounts through the Zoho ticketing system
  • Serve as point of contact for Northstar Digital Literacy Resources

Technology Instructor

  • Serve as a proctor for Northstar Digital Literacy assessments.
  • Document adult learner progress on formal and informal assessments and maintain necessary student information for compliance with data requirements; properly and timely administer all required testing to students.
  • Teach a variety of technology classes using already established curriculum, recommend improvements to materials and create new curriculum based on community and industry needs.
  • Conduct training needs assessments to determine appropriate programming and training opportunities

Assist with Training Evaluation 

  • Aggregate data for analysis
  • Collaborate with the education team to evaluate the effectiveness of training programs

The duties of this position may change over time based on varying funding sources, community needs and other factors.  Other duties may be assigned.  

The successful candidate will be: 

  • An educator with knowledge of the educational, cognitive, and social/emotional needs of adult learners.
  • Someone with knowledge of and experience in applying adult learning theories and universal design for learning. 
  • An individual interested in working with diverse cultural and socio-economic communities.
  • Knowledgeable of current trends in technology and adult education including digital badging and the concept of connected learning.
  • Lifelong learner with a demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and supporting an institutional culture of learning.
  • A flexible professional with the ability to adapt to change and able to handle multiple competing projects, priorities and tasks. 
  • A big picture thinker and detail-oriented doer with experience developing and implementing programs and activities that require collaboration and cooperation of others.
  • Comfortable with agile program development -- be willing to take risks and pilot projects, evaluate success and failures, and revise.
  • Able to seek out and build positive relationships with community partners, staff, and administration in a collaborative, productive, and supportive manner.
  • A team-player who will help identify, nurture, and achieve shared goals with PPL staff, partners, and patrons/students including proven success in working with community partners, specifically in technology, education and diverse community outreach efforts
  • Forward-thinker with a record of developing imaginative solutions to complex problems and creating support for solutions. 

Experience, education, and minimum requirements

  • BS/BA in Education, Adult Education or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Previous experience teaching basic and intermediate computer/digital literacy skills to adult learners
  • Proficiency in using MS applications, Google applications, and web-conferencing tools
  • Proficiency in using a variety of educational technology software and resources 
  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment
  • Commitment to working with adults of diverse economic, linguistic, and/or cultural backgrounds
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications, including the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy and comfort working in a multicultural environment 
  • Strong public speaking skills

Additional requirements:

  • Driving/Travel requirements – 30+% - local.  Position is based at Providence Public Library but must have ability to work independently off-site; locations may include libraries, schools, local adult education providers’, community organizations, etc.
  • Must be available to occasionally work weeknights and/or weekends
  • Knowledge of Spanish or another second language is helpful, but not required
  • Physical requirements – Ability to occasionally lift/move up to 25 lbs.

This position is:

Non-Exempt and is part of the Union 

Hours:  35 hours per week, variable hours based on Monday - Friday, 8:30 am – 5 pm. Occasional nights and/or weekends required.

Salary Range: $26 - $28
