Job Description:
 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Coordinates, develops, promotes, implements and evaluates circulation services, interlibrary loan, document delivery, course reserves and stacks maintenance. Responsible for the oversight of access services-related tools, systems and technologies; supervision of public services staff, student workers and functions across multiple shifts; and facilities management including security.  Responsible for hiring, supervising, training, developing, and evaluating non-exempt full-time, part-time and student staff.  

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Access Services Department

  1. Responsible for the daily operational management, and development, implementation and evaluation of the department's services. Includes responsibility for staffing the building almost 90 hours a week during the academic year, and the flexibility to respond to any scheduling changes.
  2. Responsible for hiring, supervising, training, developing, and evaluating non-exempt full-time, part-time and student public services staff. Supervision includes planning and assigning work, controlling work through periodic reviews and evaluations, determining direct reports' training needs and providing or arranging for such training.
  3. Leads the development and makes recommendations on Library policies, procedures and workflows related to Public Services, Circulation, Course Reserves and ILL/Document Delivery in collaboration with Public Services Library Assistants.
  4. Serves as a system administrator for "Public Services" software: e.g., ExLibris Alma and OCLC's ILLIAD.  Works closely with the Systems Librarian.
  5. Collects and maintains statistics on access services, generates various reports, and prepares the department's annual reports. Assesses services and facilities and utilizes data tools to convey impact of services on library mission and goals.
  6. Develops and manages patron-driven services involving technology as well as managing technology driven spaces. Proficiently uses Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  7. Demonstrates and models people skills and mental flexibility needed to handle complex human interactions and to remain calm under pressure.

Circulation, Course Reserves, Interlibrary Services & Document Delivery

  1. Responsible for overseeing, coordinating, developing, supervising, implementing and evaluating circulation services, course reserves services including controlled digital lending, interlibrary loan services and document delivery.
  2. Responsible for the oversight of the creation and implementation of the circulation desk schedule.
  3. Responsible for all functions of circulation using the ExLibris Alma library system.
  4. Responsible for overseeing financial transactions for billing Fitchburg State students, faculty and staff for lost or late items. Responsible for the oversight of interlibrary loan book-keeping activities.

Stacks Maintenance

  1. Supervises work related to stack maintenance including the shifting of collections, shelf reading, inventory projects, special projects and participation in the weeding process.

General Library Responsibilities

  1. Determines the need for equipment, supplies and personnel, and recommends acquisition of such to the Library Dean. Monitors associated budgets and prepares financial reconciliations reports.
  2. Plans and schedules exhibits and displays to highlight library materials, in collaboration with other Public Services staff.
  3. Represents the library at professional meetings on and off campus and at various training workshops.
  4. Engages and leads interdepartmental & interdivisional projects.
  5. Ensures that public and staff areas are safe, clean, and inviting. Communicates with appropriate campus staff regarding facilities and safety issues and enforces policies and coordinates with University Police and other offices as needed.
  6. Assist the Library Dean with library related projects as needed.
  7. Other duties as required.


Requirements:
 

  1. Bachelor's degree with a minimum of five years' experience in a role of similar complexity and supervisory responsibility in a library access services position. Candidates that possess a master's degree with a minimum of two years' experience in a role of similar complexity and supervisory responsibility in a library access services position will be considered.
  2. Experience in a supervisory role with proven demonstrated success.
  3. Experience and knowledge of library systems, preferably ExLibris Alma, OCLC's ILLIAD.
  4. Effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  5. Visionary, solution-focused mindset towards new approaches to access service delivery, emerging technologies, and workflows within access services.
  6. Ability to work assigned schedule, including inclement weather days and the flexibility to vary the schedule as required.
  7. Knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion work and the ability to appropriately and effectively understand and adapt to cultural differences to work effectively with a diverse student population.
  8. Must be able to satisfactorily pass a check conducted by the Criminal History Systems Board (CORI check); a background check satisfactory to the university and must be fully vaccinated and boosted for COVID-19 or have a documented and approved exemption.
  9. Ability to perform above duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
  10. Bilingual (Spanish-speaking) is desired.

This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, professional APA position. The firm annual salary range for this position is $65K - $69K.
