Job Description

Position Summary

This part-time (twenty hours per week) position reports to the Head of Access Services, and it is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Westminster Law Library’s access services functions during weekend and evening hours, as scheduled. The core duties of the position include oversight of the law library’s circulation of materials, including reserves and interlibrary loan, stacks maintenance, library building maintenance, and library-related outreach, and additional duties and projects as assigned.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinate, oversee, problem-solve, and participate in the access services functions of the law library on weekends and evenings, including general circulation functions, reserves, shelving, stacks maintenance, filing, signage, and interlibrary loan.
  • Help schedule, train, manage, and back up the part-time hourly workers who staff the law library’s circulation desk.
  • Provide high-quality service at a combined circulation and reference desk.
  • Work closely with the Head of Access Services and the Assistant Director in areas such as access services planning, monitoring, and assessment.
  • Serve as the initial point person for building management issues during assigned shifts – including communicating facilities requests, technological troubleshooting, weather-related issues, and security – and communicate them as appropriate, including to the Head of Access Services and the Assistant Director.
  • Stay abreast of new developments in law library access services.
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The following skills are critical to success in this position:  

  • A strong customer service orientation and the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships, both inside and outside the law library.
  • An ability to work weekends and evenings.
  • Technological proficiency, including in library-related technologies to support access services, such as online catalogs and ILL platforms, or a demonstrated potential for rapid growth into such skills.
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills and the ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • The ability to work both independently and as a team member, including establishing and maintaining effective and collaborative working relationships both inside and outside of the law library. This includes the ability to work flexibly with faculty, students, staff, and a diverse research community.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills; adaptability and flexibility; and an attention to detail, accuracy, timeliness, and dependability.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant experience in a library.

Work Schedule
Two weekend days (either Friday & Saturday or Saturday & Sunday), as well as weekday evening shifts as assigned.

Physical Demands

  • The ability to lift 20 pounds.
  • The ability to unpack and shelve books.
  • The ability to push carts of books.

Salary Grade

The salary grade for this position is 6.

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $18.00-$21.00/hr
