Job Description

The University of Missouri Libraries (MU Libraries) invites applications for the full-time, NTT Librarian position of Continuing Resources Cataloger. This librarian provides access to library continuing resources through descriptive metadata, subject analysis, and classification by performing original and copy cataloging; maintains current holdings of monographic series and serials; and participates in planning, including developing unit, departmental, and project goals, priorities, and procedures at a departmental, library, and UM System level. A successful candidate with no experience cataloging continuing resources will be required to complete format-specific training after hire.

Responsibilities Include:

§  Perform original and copy cataloging of print and electronic continuing resources for the University Libraries, following approved standards and procedures including RDA, LC-PCC, and CONSER Guidelines. This process includes modifying bibliographic, item, order, and holdings records.

§  Perform serial record maintenance for print materials by updating bibliographic records when serials cease, titles or frequencies change, holdings change, and or other modifications to serials to ensure accurate description.

§  Participate in planning, including developing unit, departmental, and project goals, priorities, and procedures at a departmental, library, and UM System level.

§  Maintains accurate serials holdings for the libraries and oversees print retention projects.

§  Maintains series authority records and makes decisions regarding description and classification of monographic series.

§  Other duties as assigned.

Salary

Salary and librarian rank will be commensurate with experience. Negotiable from $51,500.

This position holds non-tenure track faculty status (NTT) and will be hired at the appropriate rank of Librarian or Archivist. Qualifications

§  ALA-accredited Master’s degree

The successful candidate will also be evaluated on the following:

§  Experience or familiarity with CONSER standards

§  Experience as or willingness to become a NACO contributor

§  Experience with or willingness to learn requirements for cataloging government publications

§  Experience cataloging materials in any format with knowledge of RDA, LCSH, and Library of Congress Classification; paraprofessional experience will be considered.

This position may require:

§  Ability to obtain/place materials on shelves at ground level and on shelves up to nine feet in height using step stools, ladders, or other devices.

§  Ability to identify call numbers where lighting may be compromised, on shelves at ground level and on shelves up to nine feet in height using step stools, ladders, or other devices.

§  Ability to move a book cart weighing at least 200 lbs. (these are on wheels).

§  Ability to transport several books at one time and/or move boxes of books (up to 50 pounds).

§  May expose you to mold and dust.

§  Ability to perform very detailed work.
