LCLS seeks an organized individual with excellent problem-solving skills to review processes for efficiency and ensure the cleanest possible database of materials for library users. Ensuring that access to library materials meets the needs and expectations of the public we serve is an ongoing challenge and opportunity. A key component to success will be the ability to work collaboratively with the Cataloging Services team, public service divisions, and selectors in order to be proactive in minimizing errors and getting materials out of the Unit and into the public’s hands as efficiently and effectively as possible. We are looking for a new perspective to critically ascertain areas of strength and weakness, and provide creative solutions.
The library is in the middle of a major reclassification process for the youth floor, changing a cataloging scheme that has been in place since the 1970s (E for toddler books, J for school age, etc.) to a scheme that makes more sense to the public. The largest part of the project, changing the picture books to face-out shelving and categorizing, is slated to start in FY24.
A person who is thorough and conscientious, understands the role of delegation, has experience in moving complex projects forward towards successful completion, is an expert in monitoring routine tasks for quick completion to high standards, and thinks and acts collaboratively will be successful in this job.
The Cataloging Supervisor works in Adult Services directly assisting patrons 5-10 hours per week. This ensures the Supervisor sees how their work is being utilized by the public. The Cataloging Supervisor works with multiple vendors such as Ingram and Computype to resolve issues and maintain positive relationships.
