Job Description

The Editor-in-Chief will lead an editorial team (of approximately 10 – all working primarily remote) fostering creativity and collaboration while devising, executing, and evolving LJ’s editorial vision and direction, in conjunction with the publisher.

  • Evolve and accelerate the print and digital content strategy, informed by analytics and utilizing an integrated editorial calendar that maximizes content across platforms.
  • Drive editorial product development and strategic planning for print, digital, and special projects, including in-person and virtual events; fostering brand impact through brand voice, new products, partnerships, and other business development, working closely with the business team and publisher.
  • Continually advance expertise related to the library ecosystem.
  • Provide leadership on diversity, inclusion, and equity (DEI) at LJ working with key stakeholders that include employees, contributors, and readers. 
  • Write editorials and occasional features, be hands on with other editorial development at all levels, and model excellent editorial skills.
  • Represent LJ in public forums, events, press requests, etc., as the face of the brand.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in English, Journalism, Education, or other relevant humanities. 
  • Expert knowledge of libraries and the related industry landscape; MLS or MLIS, or equivalent experience a plus. 
  • Writing, editing, and publishing experience.
  • Superb editing, writing, and oral communication skills.
  • Managerial experience required, with demonstrable inclusive team building, collaboration, and project management skills.
  • Detail and results oriented, highly motivated, strong time management against multiple overlapping deadlines.
  • Skill with databases, content management platforms, web publications, e-newsletter deployment, and knowledge of social media and search engine optimization (SEO) best practices.
