Job Description

Youth Services Librarian

The Youth Services Librarian is responsible for all aspects of library services for children, their caregivers, tweens and teens. Must be comfortable with all ages, newborn to 18. Must be friendly and approachable with a solid commitment to patron services and meeting the needs of the community.  Must adopt a teamwork mindset as we will be working as a team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·       Plans, organizes, and publicizes children and teen programs, including but not limited to story times, reading challenges, special events, school & community outreach. The Summer Reading Program is the most involved program of the year.  Several options are offered, not all of which we will use. (There is a separate software for SRP stats via OLIS.  Stats are part of the Annual Survey which is compiled by the director.)

·       Monthly stats which include programs & CE attendance are needed for the Director’s report to the monthly Trustees meeting.

·       Must be technologically savvy/comfortable with a knowledge of social media, especially FB, Zoom, Microsoft Word & Excel, & Microsoft Teams.  If not familiar withany of these, must be receptive to learning new things. 

·       Plans, organizes, and maintains the library’s children and teen collections, collaborating with the director.  Knowledge of DDC classification is a plus!

·       Attends professional meetings, either in-person or virtually, conferences, and training/Continuing Education (CE) as it applies to this position. 

·       Assists youth and families in the use of the library and its resources. Assists parents and other adults in selection of appropriate children and teen material.

Education and Experience

·       Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program required or near completion of said master’s degree.

·       Experience working with children and teens a plus!

Benefits & Additional Compensation Info

No health benefits.  Holiday pay where applicable.  Accrued vacation pay.  Closed Tuesdays & Wednesdays.
