Library Associate – Events & Experiences
Role:
Drives PopUp Library to off-site locations to provide library services; answers patron requests for information and assists with technology; checks materials in and out; plans and conducts programming and interactive experiences.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
40% - PROGRAM PLANNING & EXPERIENCE DEVELOPMENT – Plans informative and engaging programs/interactions for community and neighborhood events, school visits, etc. by using outcomes-based planning and evaluation tools identifies potential needs and interests of target audiences and shares relevant resources and services; assists with organizing and preparing organizational community engagement experiences and booth kits. (Essential)
20% - PATRON ASSISTANCE – Serves as the first point of contact for patrons providing assistance using library materials and information, searching the catalog, accessing databases, and navigating the Internet; identifies and communicates with supervisor opportunities for additional library services and/or supplemental services for various audiences; assists patrons with circulation functions which include, but are not limited to, issuing and updating library cards, placing holds, and addressing account problems; passes the patron on to a Librarian for further assistance beyond the efforts required of a reference interview. 10% - CIRCULATION – Checks out and renews materials; assists patrons with checkout and checking in materials; issues and updates library cards; follows procedures and collects money for fines and over-dues; processes holds; and checks in materials and sorts and routes the materials to their proper location in order to assist patrons with borrowing of materials. (Essential)
10%-MOBILE SERVICES– Helps maintain vehicle by performing driving checklists and reporting issues with the vehicle; drives vehicle to and from regularly scheduled stops and scheduled events; loads and unloads library materials using rolling carts; interprets library policy in absence of librarian or direct supervisor; and acts as Person In Charge (PIC) when at events. 10% - SHELVING – Shelves library materials by loading carts with returned materials; placing materials on the appropriate shelf according to Dewey decimal number, author name, or title in order to return materials to library shelves. (Non-Essential)
5% - COLLECTION MAINTENANCE – Finalizes the processing of new materials by date stamping and/or placing collection identifying decals on materials; assists Librarians with weeding by pulling materials from shelves based upon a weeding list; informs Librarians about gaps in the collection in order to maintain an appealing, current, and useful collection. (Essential)
5% - OTHER DUTIES - Assists with providing website content; creates booklists, displays, bulletin boards, electronic documents, and other special tools; and assists the Supervisor in order to ensure the smooth operation of the department. (Non-Essential)
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree
Experience:
One year of related experience
Valid Colorado Driver’s License and a good driving record.
Personal vehicle
Able to drive personal vehicle or mobile unit to deliver programs and services.
Experience presenting and providing library services to customers who may not have literacy or technology skills (preferred)
Multicultural skills and sensitivities to ethnic, linguistic and cultural groups (preferred)
Able to read, write, and speak Spanish or another second language fluently (preferred)
Or any combination of education and experience which provides the success factors.
