Job Description

IT Application Engineer

Role:  

Provides support, administration and leadership for applications and client systems requiring mid to advanced levels of technical acumen.  Ensures responsive and stable technology solutions and services while providing customer support.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

50% – ADMINISTRATION AND SUPPORT OF APPLICATIONS & SERVICES  – With considerable independence ensures assigned systems are responsive, stable and available.  Acts as the point for off the shelf, sometimes industry specific, software including the installation, configuration, testing, monitoring, troubleshooting, account management and ongoing upgrades and patches.   Ensures data accuracy and integrity, confirms best practice implementation including required security measures.  Monitor current and future state needs of assigned systems and work with the ITI Manager to develop ongoing management plans.   (Essential)

30% - TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT  - Works with IT team members to quickly resolve complex technical problems to avoid costly downtime and service outages.   Assumes ownership of escalated technical issues to facilitate to the point of resolution.  Monitors, assumes ownership of and works to resolution on incidents/problems/changes in the general  ITI queue .   Work may include workstation level configuration troubleshooting and assistance of mid to high level complexity .   Provide backup coverage for other ITI staff functions.  Working with the department manager maintain up to date documentation and information to enable effective load sharing and backup of the position responsibilities.   Responds to customer and organizational needs by researching, compiling options, identifying recommendations and then owning assigned incidents/requests/problems/changes.   (Essential)

10% - DATA COMPILATION & ANALYSIS - Compile and analyze data.  Review for accuracy and anomalies prior to distribution to ensure accuracy. Generate   customer facing summaries that are appropriate for the audience.   Using resulting information, formulate observations, identify issues and make recommendations for continuous operational improvement or change.  (Essential)

10% - Other Duties- Assist Supervisor with other duties as assigned in order to ensure the smooth operation of the department. (Non-Essential)

Minimum Requirements:

Educations:  Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field

Experience:  3 - 5 years of experience working with enterprise applications (preferred)

Knowledge of current web technologies and tools 

Mid to advanced level skill in troubleshooting across the full spectrum of the technology environment including clients, applications and basic technology infrastructure 

Or any combination of education and experience which provides the success factors.

Job Success Factors:

Knowledge of ITI process and configuration best practices and why they are important.

Knowledge of standard technology infrastructure components and configurations (examples:  domains, policies, directory services, DNS, TCP/IP)

Knowledge of Integrated Library Systems & Tools (Sierra, Encore, Library Thing, Tele-forms)

Skill with client management tools and environments (Symantec, Deep Freeze,  Gotoassist/Logmein, Go-to-Service Desk, Virtual servers (Hyper-V),   HTML

MDM solutions (VMWare Workspace/Airwatch), Landesk, SCCM)

Proficient in the Microsoft client operating systems and Office Suite with advanced experience using Excel and Windows 10

Skill in working with service management tools 

Skill in supporting business critical systems  

Skill with databases database structures, SQL and report writing. 

Skill in SharePoint

Skill in customer relations

Skill in problem solving and decision making 

Able to develop and methodically work through troubleshooting plans
