Department Summary

The University of Denver Libraries, comprised of the Main Library at the Anderson Academic Commons, a remote storage facility called the Hampden Center, and the Bonfils Stanton Music Library in the Newman Center, is a highly collaborative organization that serves a diverse population, ranging from our students, staff, and faculty to public and other academic patrons from the surrounding region. The Anderson Academic Commons is the campus centerpiece for collaborative teaching, learning, and engagement. Position Summary

THE UNIVERSITY OF DENVER HAMPDEN CENTER (LOCATED IN LAKEWOOD, CO-- 10.2 MILES OFF-CAMPUS) seeks a knowledgeable and enthusiastic information technician. The candidate will process multi-format collections, use descriptive taxonomies in the processing and rehousing of physical collections, and will further add inventory control to the processed material by using a local organizational schema specific to the Hampden Center. May act as a backup for the daily operations of the Hampden Center in retrieving materials for DU patrons using the organizational schema and Alma.

This is a non-benefited position not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.

Essential Functions

  • Scan article requests from materials onsite and delivered,
  • Prioritize scanning requests according to delivery schedule,
  • May be responsible for the transportation of materials to and from campus between 8am and 4pm, Monday – Friday.
  • Retrieve requested material using ladders and aerial lift,
  • Troubleshoot printer, computer, software issues as they arise,
  • Shelve books in designated areas,
  • Conduct routine stack searches for overdue or missing items,
  • Perform a building walkthrough each shift,
  • Shift library materials as needed to build and comply with space planning procedures and maintenance,
  • Participate in inventory and re-labeling projects,
  • Cooperate as a team member with staff to achieve efficient library operation,
  • Become capable of opening and closing procedures in the absence of the manager including but not limited to: Arming and/or disarming the building
  • Has excellent communication skills and a willingness to engage on a professional level to assure excellent internal customer service.
  • Recognizes and incorporates the mission and goals of the department, and the Library as a whole, into all aspects of their work.
  • Frequent adjustments to the daily routine based on the priorities of the day.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Have the ability to work independently.
  • Have a valid driver’s license and at least 21 years of age and must be willing and able to operate a University vehicle and an aerial lift (after on-site training).
  • Able to work in both a typical office environment and a warehouse environment.
  • Ability to lift boxes up to 25-50 pounds, stand, bend, kneel, push, pull, and use ladders to perform the work.

Required Qualifications

  • Have previous information or materials’ processing experience.
  • If 21 years of age, have a valid driver's license, pass the defensive driving course, and must be willing and able to operate a University vehicle and an aerial lift (after on-site training). Those under 21 will not transport materials.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, Part-Time.

This position requires 10-20 hours per week for fall, winter and spring quarters with flexibility in scheduling.

Hourly Rate

This position is eligible for a federal work-study, which requires eligibility through the Financial Aid Office. This position is also open to non-work study funded students. 

The hourly rate for this position is $18.46.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
