Job Description

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) seeks a collaborative leader to bring a visionary and strategic approach as Director of the Hunt Library, a professional administrative position.  The successful candidate will lead the Hunt Library, which provides innovative services and resources for the residential Daytona Beach Campus and the distance learning Worldwide Campus, as well as the University Archives and ERAU’s institutional repository.

The duties include:

  • Promoting and executing a vision that reflects internal and external input and supports the mission of the library.
  • Managing a staff of 35 with direct supervision of seven members of the Management Team and the Archives Librarian.
  • Leading the library in innovative services, systems, and programs that support the mission of the university in teaching the science, practice and business of aviation and aerospace.
  • Developing and supporting a strong team of library professionals.
  • Implementing a strategic plan that reflects a thoughtful and well-informed assessment of the current and future role of the library.
  • Communicating library and institutional repository activities to the Daytona Beach, Worldwide and Prescott campuses as appropriate.
  • Overseeing development and establishment of library policies and procedures to meet campus teaching and learning needs while supporting student retention and graduation rates.
  • Planning and managing the library's annual budget, resources, collections, IT needs, and facilities to meet the Daytona campus and Worldwide campus current and future needs.
  • Coordinating and collaborating with the Prescott campus library on shared resources.
  • Engaging in development, fundraising, community engagement, and public relations.
  • Advocating for the library with leadership, deans, department chairs, and faculty across Daytona Beach and Worldwide campuses.
  • Participating in university committees and teams as appropriate on behalf of the library.
  • Participating in local, state, and national professional library organizations for increased network opportunities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • ALA (American Library Association) accredited Master’s degree or accredited international equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of progressive administrative and/or leadership experience in academic libraries.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience with a full range of library and archival operations, including modern library services platforms, instructional services, metadata creation and management, institutional repositories, and university archives.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in cultivating diversity, equity and inclusion among staff and students.
  • Demonstrated organizational planning and supervisory skills, data-driven decision-making, fiscal management, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Superb written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Understanding of copyright issues as they pertain to academic libraries, including open access, open educational resources, and resource sharing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to work collaboratively with library colleagues and university leadership in all university campuses.
  • Strong management skills, patience, empathy, conflict resolution, fostering teamwork, and listening.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in higher education, with the understanding of implications that they have for the academic library environment for both residential and online faculty and students.
  • Experience engaging in development, fundraising, grant seeking, and community engagement.
  • Advanced degree preferred.
