Job Description
The University of Missouri Libraries (MU Libraries) invites applications for the full-time, NTT Librarian position of Community Engagement Coordinator. This librarian represents the University Libraries to new users, enriches the user experience, and expands opportunities for users to engage with library programs and services. Reporting to the Vice Provost for Libraries, and working closely with members of the Library Management Team, the Community Engagement Coordinator works collaboratively with colleagues across the Libraries to further develop services, spaces, and programming that promote student learning, with particular attention to supporting the library needs of students, both undergraduate and graduate. The position will support engagement activities at all levels including exhibits in the libraries, and library programming directed at various user populations, library organizations, including the community at large. This librarian maintains communication with student groups for the purpose of gathering input to be used in libraries planning; and serves as point of contact regarding tours of the Ellis Library.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Represent the University Libraries at specific university events to promote University Libraries services. This includes participation in student-focused events, at freshman orientations, as well as recruiting and coordinating volunteers for events that promote the use of library services. These events include, but are not limited to, a homecoming open house, end of semester support activities for students, and National Library Week.
· Serve as liaison to the University Libraries Student Advisory Council, Library Student Ambassador program, and other student groups for the purpose of library services enhancement. This role includes ensuring that student input regarding library services is solicited, communicated to, and addressed by library administration. The liaison role includes providing reports to the Student Financial Review Committee on spending of the student fee for libraries fund, in collaboration with the Assistant Director for Library Business Services, and facilitating the students’ annual update to the Student Library Vision document for the Libraries.
· Develop and lead creative programming to enhance the library user experience. Foster the development of meaningful library programming in collaboration with internal library partners or other campus partners, particularly with those who operate within Ellis Library. Provide advice and support for library staff who are providing programming to specific user groups.
· Serve as a member of the Libraries Marketing Team, which creates and implements a cohesive marketing strategy for the MU Libraries. The Marketing Team works with library staff to promote library events and services using a variety of communication tools, including social media, news articles, press releases, digital signs, and print materials.
· Identify sources of exhibit material and communicate as needed with potential exhibitors. Coordinate the display of exhibits within Ellis Library. Exhibit material may be provided by faculty or student groups, libraries staff, or external partners. The coordinator will ensure that the exhibit materials are appropriate for, and visually interesting to, library users, and that they are installed and removed according to an arranged schedule managed by the coordinator.
· Coordinate outreach activities in collaboration with partners, such as the Art & Archeology Museum Education Coordinator, regarding public events in Ellis Library. Seek partnerships and projects with librarians and other professionals in external agencies or with other community entities to enhance University Library services. These partners could be librarians in public libraries, school libraries, other academic libraries or specialized libraries. They may also be service professionals in public service organizations that have meaningful library-related programming.
· Assist with creating and updating University Libraries promotional materials in collaboration with the Communications Officer.
· Serve as a member of the Libraries Events Team and participate in Library Society events, Friends of the Libraries events, and other Library events as appropriate.
· Participate actively on library and university-wide committees, task forces, and working groups.
· Perform other duties as assigned. Some evening or weekend hours required.
Benefits & Additional Compensation Info
Salary and librarian rank will be commensurate with experience. Negotiable from $51,500.
This position holds non-tenure track faculty status (NTT) and will be hired at the appropriate rank of Librarian or Archivist. Minimum Qualifications
· ALA accredited degree (or equivalent) in Library/Information Science.
· Two years of experience related to libraries, museums, or similar public-facing education-focused organization.
