Job Description

The Teaching and Learning, Department Head, a non-tenure track Instructor position, leads the Auraria Library’s efforts in planning, implementing, and managing information literacy instruction, outreach, and research services.  This position provides leadership for all issues related to the library’s educational role such as student learning, online education, first-year and transfer, curriculum planning, student learning assessment, and instructor development as well as   areas related to the library’s research support role such as scholarly communication, data literacy and support, citation management, research consultations, and campus research recognition and promotion. In response to strategic campus shifts toward hybrid modalities and a new emphasis on research, the Department Head will build an understanding of the library’s role and a framework for advancing the teaching and research missions across campus.

The Department Head leads nine library faculty, a university staff member, and a classified staff member, as well as multiple student assistants.  The Department Head, who reports to the Research, Learning, and User Services, Associate Director is an active member of the public services leadership group, manages the library’s research help services, and participates in the development and evaluation of cross-departmental public services.  The successful candidate is a dynamic, student-focused educator with demonstrated leadership skills who continually transforms and assesses education, research services, and outreach services by gathering and using quantitative and qualitative data to inform planning while actively monitoring the campus curriculum and scholarship. 

As a Library faculty member, the librarian participates on Library and campus-wide committees and in CU Denver faculty governance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library or Information Science, or equivalent advanced degree.
  • Experience leading an instruction program in an academic or research library.
  • Supervisory experience in an academic or research library.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience employing quantitative and/or qualitative research methodologies for programmatic student learning assessment.
  • Experience leading or developing research support services in an academic or research library.
  • Demonstrated experience working successfully with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience supervising faculty.
