The City of Westminster is seeking a compassionate and collaborative Library Associate who loves working with children and their adults! The Library Associate II - Youth Services position is responsible for cocreating and delivering innovative programming, providing reference and readers’ advisory to all ages, and supporting outreach efforts.
The Youth Services Associate is a part-time position that regularly works the reference desk, provides outstanding customer service, answers an array of technology and reference questions, and creates engaging displays to highlight the library’s collection. With librarian supervision, this position also contributes to collection maintenance through ongoing weeding. The ideal candidate for this role has a heart for public service, champions teamwork, and values equity and empathy in a community-focused urban library setting. Someone with a passion for youth services, engaging programming ideas, and patience with adults will thrive in this environment.
The Youth Services Associate is a paraprofessional position, and reports directly to the Youth Services Librarian. Irving Street Library will be home base, but collaborative programming and desk shifts at College Hill are also expected.
The Irving Street branch is a neighborhood library at the heart of Historic Westminster. It is a small and busy location in a densely populated area with a diverse population, including Hispanic, Hmong, and Native American representation with a wide range of socioeconomic and generational backgrounds. Bilingual candidates are highly encouraged to apply.
Applicants must be available to work at least one night and weekend day each week.
Benefits & Additional Compensation Info
The full compensation range for this position is $24.99-32.01. Starting wages are negotiable and dependent on the qualifications and experience of each individual candidate.
This position is 20 hours (.5 FTE) per week and reports to the Irving Street Library. Applicants must be available to work at least one night and weekend day each week. Associates are expected to cover shifts and programming at both Westminster locations from time to time.
The City of Westminster offers a bonus of up to $1,500 per year depending on the employee’s fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Laotian, and/or American Sign Language (ASL).
This part-time position is eligible for benefits.
Additional Info & Requirements
Required:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Graduation from High School or GED
- Experience working with children in a daycare, preschool, elementary school, or children's department of a public or school library
- Possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record
Preferred:
- Graduation from an accredited, four-year college
- Spanish language skills
- Experience in library youth services
- Working knowledge of children’s and young adult literature
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered.
