Job Description
Part-Time (up to 19 hrs. per week)
The staff of the Mohr Library offer excellent customer service to help people make the best use of the public library system. Library Assistants put books away and help to keep the library in good order. They direct patrons to specific places and items in the library and refer them to other personnel as appropriate. Library assistants may be stationed at service desks and may help patrons to borrow materials and use various library services. They learn to use the library’s computer and manual systems to support day-to-day operations.
Duties may involve the following.
Have or acquire a working knowledge of routine operations of the library’s automated system for checking out materials to patrons, processing returns, maintaining patron records, searching for specific items and maintaining information about the status of library materials.
Answer calls and messages and refer as needed.
Assist patrons with library equipment such as scanners, copiers, and printers.
Accurately sort and file materials according to documented systems.
Examine library materials for damage and other problems.
Examine shelved physical materials for proper order.
Assist with shelving-related tasks such as moving books or shifting materials on shelves.
Inventory collections and supplies.
Help to arrange furniture and equipment for various activities as assigned.
Have or acquire the ability to make simple book repairs, clean and cover materials. Participate in this work as directed.
Required qualifications: Technology literate, Good communication skills, Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and to lift thirty pounds.
