Job Description

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING PATHWAYS COORDINATOR

(FT 35HRS/WK)

The Professional Learning Pathways Coordinator at Providence Public Library develops and delivers educational opportunities for library and adult education staff within Rhode Island and nationally.

This position oversees multiple professional learning grants; current grants include the statewide delivery system for professional development for adult education practitioners (funded by the Rhode Island Department of Education) and a National Leadership grant from the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS). This position is responsible for supervising Pathways staff, collaborating on the design of the grant work plans, overseeing the work plan implementation, tracking budget expenditures, and serving as a thought partner for developing future opportunities. 

  • The duties of this position may change over time based on varying funding sources, community needs and other factors.

Coordinate Professional Learning Programs

  • Develop, implement, and manage professional development programs, events, and activities for RIDE-funded Adult Education Programs in collaboration with Pathways Specialist(s) using a broad range of traditional and technology-based approaches such as formal group and individual training, workshops, coaching, web-based programs, e-Learning systems, and interactive videos.
  • Provide individualized and group coaching to adult education practitioners to help them develop professional learning goals and identify common interests for future opportunities for the field.
  • Recruit and sponsor local practitioners to attend professional development opportunities such as COABE, ISTE, CASAS conferences, etc.
  • Collaboratively develop a master calendar of professional development opportunities, training sessions, and events; assist with logistical requirements and publicity as needed.
  • Develop methods and tools for data collection and evaluate the effectiveness of professional development activities and participation; prepare reports and recommendations related to outcomes and possible improvements.
  • Represent the Adult Education professional learning system at local, regional, state, and national meetings and conferences.
  • Research and disseminate information regarding new and emerging technologies that support organizational development, professional development and learning in collaboration with Pathways Specialists, including preparing content for the weekly professional learning newsletter.

Manage Professional Learning Grants

  • Manage contractual agreements per grant requirements.
  • Develop workplans and timelines to fulfill grant requirements in collaboration with funders, partners, and other stakeholders; meet regularly with these groups to monitor and assess deliverables.
  • Produce reports in accordance with grant requirements.
  • Create, track and manage invoices, MOU’s and liaise with Finance Department to confirm monthly salary off-sets, budgets, and other monetary matters.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Adult Education on developing grant budgets; during implementation, submit budget requests to the Head of Adult Education for approval and track budget expenditures.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Adult Education and PPL’s External Relations Team in grant writing activities and funding proposals.

Supervision and Support

  • Supervise and support Pathways staff; coordinate and assign tasks to project team members
    Facilitate Pathways team meetings and coordinate meeting agendas
  • Collaborate with Specialist(s) to identify and evaluate local and external expertise sources for consultants and vendor-available professional development courses, facilitation, and materials; collaborate to recommend purchases designed to meet the needs of programs
  • Develop and maintain consultant and vendor contracts; provide HR paperwork and liaise with HR on necessary forms and requirements.
  • Check and approve staff and contractor hours submitted and entered into payroll system

  • Cultivate practices of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the organization that serves the public and each other.
  • Collaborate with External Relations to ignite and activate a community of support for PPL and to amplify the Library’s message and work.
  • Check email daily and respond to emails in a timely manner.
  • Participate as a co-selector to contribute to the general collection, pending the approval of both the Head of Information Services and the employee's supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Successful candidate will have:

  • Knowledge of the educational, cognitive, and social/emotional needs of adult learners.
  • Knowledge of and experience in applying adult learning theories and universal design for learning.
  • Interested in working with diverse cultural and socio-economic communities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and supporting an institutional culture of learning.
  • Big picture thinker and detail-oriented doer with experience developing and implementing programs and activities that require collaboration and cooperation of others.

Education & Experience Required: 

  • BS/BA in Education, Adult Education or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of Adult Education systems at the local, regional and national levels required.
  • 5 years experience of educational training, coaching or delivering educational professional development.
  • Familiarity with Adult Education programming components, including: Adult Basic Education; High School Equivalency; English Language Learning; Career Preparation and Training; Career Pathways; CCRS/ELPS standards; Integrated Education and Training (IET & IELCE) programs; CASAS testing or other NRS approved assessments; and standards.

Additional Skills:

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications, including the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy and comfort working in a multicultural environment.
  • Proficiency in using MS applications, Google applications, and web-conferencing tools.
  • Strong attention to details and strong organizational skills
  • Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
  • Committed to efforts around supporting diversity, equity and inclusion, working with adults of diverse economic, linguistic, and/or cultural backgrounds, and working with adult students with learning disabilities
  • Able to adapt to change and handle multiple competing projects, priorities, and tasks.
  • Able to seek out and build positive relationships with community partners, staff, and administration in a collaborative, productive, and supportive manner.
  • Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets and other various Google applications experience required.
  • Familiar with Google Meet.

Additional Requirements:

Driving/Travel requirements – 0-10% 

Position Location – Providence, RI 

Physical requirements – ability to occasionally lift/move up to 25 lbs

This position is:

Exempt and is not part of the Union

Hours:  35 hours per week, Monday through Friday with an occasional night or weekend

Starting Salary:  $34.50 per hour/$62,790 annually
