Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities: LEADERSHIP: Guides the division responsible for acquisition and processing of materials, information technology and web services with an inspirational, forward-looking vision that encourages innovation and best practices. Devises strategies to capitalize on new opportunities or resolve unforeseen issues and problems. Leads the identification of methods for achieving the priorities, goals and objectives of the division. Motivates staff to achieve goals. Serves on the Library Leadership Team and works in cooperation with other directors to set the direction for the Library and create a work environment that encourages high performance. MANAGEMENT: Guides strategic planning, policy development, budget formulation, and staffing analysis for the division. Delegates responsibility and authority to managers. Develops and incorporates innovations to create efficiencies and cost savings. Researches and compiles statistics on market and program participation, analyzes data and prepares reports. Works closely with Human Resources to direct the division’s guidelines in the areas of training, development, selection, discipline and evaluation standards. TECHNICAL: Stays current on library trends, issues and available technology. Recommends changes in policy pertaining to library operations. Develops effective communications and presentations. Monitors division budgets, tracks expenditures and allocates funds to accomplish Library objectives. TEAM BUILDING: Fosters a collaborative team environment. Interacts extensively with Library Commission, Executive Team, Friends Foundation and City and County of Denver agencies and governing bodies. Runs a division based on trust and open communication. Communicates effectively with colleagues, internal and external customers. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of public library information management. Knowledge of current library technology, trends and operations. Knowledge of budgeting procedures and leadership principles and practices. Knowledge of managerial competencies. Skill in analyzing work functions and developing methodologies. Skill in inspiring and empowering staff. Skill in recruitment, mentoring and coaching. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, and community. Ability to creatively solve problems and negotiate stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Ability to communicate with all levels of staff and community. Ability to envision the future of the Library and guide the division in the implementation of strategic plans. Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

Additional Info & Requirements

Special Requirements: A background check must be passed after the offer to hire has been made. Three years of management-level experience in public library operations, preferably managing acquisitions, technical services, IT or web services.
