Job Description

This Librarian II Technical Services Manager is located at the Headquarters Library within the Technical Services Division and is responsible for advanced, professional cataloging and metadata for physical and digital collections, oversight, and coordination of the departmental workflow of receiving, processing, and distribution of new materials. The position asks for an enthusiastic, innovative individual with a thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of library cataloging serials, and acquisitions and ability to adapt to changing technology or library science methodology. 

• Hires, trains, supervises, coaches, and evaluates the performance of assigned staff 
• Creates item records in the ILS (bar codes, item classification, price, location, circulation parameters, etc.) 
• Creates various databases that facilitate and/or track the work of the department, input and update the data, and create queries and reports on that data 
• Manages the overall ordering process; create and maintain vendor records in the ILS, set up and maintain electronic data interchange (EDI) specifications in the ILS and on various vendors’ websites, ensuring that they work smoothly in conjunction with the ILS 
• Performs complex cataloging for the library system, including copying bibliographic records from the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC), applying locally established edits, and assigning Dewey Decimal classification numbers and downloading into the library’s Integrated Library System (ILS) 
• Provides detailed cataloging and processing instructions to our primary vendor and report errors/problems as they occur 
• Troubleshoots problems that occur with the ILS as it pertains to acquisitions, cataloging, and serials; fix those problems when possible or report them to the State Library
