Title: Part-time Library Assistant
Summary: Library assistant are mainly responsible for circulation and assisting patrons with basic needs including printing, copying and searching our on-line catalog

Reports to the director and/or senior staff member in charge.
Essential Functions:
Qualifications:
Must be able to lift 25 pounds, walk up and down stairs, sit for prolonged periods of time and complete work in a neat manner.
Basic computer skills including email and utilization of our online computer database Sierra and a general understanding of our online services
Pleasant personality and the ability to work under pressure when dealing with the public.
Minimum high school diploma, library experience preferred.
Perform the job in a reasonable time and in a manner, which achieves reasonable performance and quality standards.
Communicate easily and effectively in group and individual situations utilizing oral and written communication skills.
Perform the job satisfactorily under the stressors of the position.
Perform the job without disrupting the work of others.
Exercise sufficient judgment to perform the job.
Other responsibilities may include weeding books, creating marketing materials, assisting with programs,
Cataloging and processing as needed.
Shelve returned materials and shelf-reading.
Assisting patrons with basic directional questions by phone or in-house. Refer complex questions to the reference librarian.
Placing holds on materials requested by patrons.
Answering telephone and handling telephone renewals.
Check-ins, checkouts, renewals, registrations and accepting payment for lost books and fines.
Opening and closing circulation in either children’s or upstairs circulation desk
Scheduled Hours include every Saturday 10-3 pm with additional hours available on Mondays and Fridays.

Warren, RI is located in the East Bay along the water. This small town is a growing hub for local artists, musicians and restaurants. The George Hail Free Library is a historical gem and although small offers wonderful customer service to all our community members.
