Job Description

Rogers Free Library seeks to fill three (3) individual part-time positions at the Circulation and Children’s Room Desks. These positions work under the direct supervision of the applicable Librarian and will serve patrons in the library as well as assist with programs and outreach. Positions are needed to fill a combination of Saturday, daytime, and evening hours averaging 12 to 15 hours per week. Saturday coverage required in Children’s from 9 AM to 5 PM; and 1 PM to 5 PM in Main Circulation. *Some additional hours may be available for fill-in coverage at either desk when other staff are absent.

Compensation for this position is $15.95 per hour.

Tasks:

  • Complete circulation duties in the ILS system including checking materials in/out, registering patrons for cards, locating materials online and in the library; maintain patron privacy.
  • Assist patrons with using and accessing library services and resources.
  • Promote library resources and programs.
  • Maintain the accuracy of items on the reserve and collection shelves.
  • Serve at the circulation desks during various shifts: mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends; flexible and set schedules available.
  • Set up book carts for Library Pages to shelve materials efficiently.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required with advanced study (Associate’s degree or higher) desirable.
  • Demonstrated “people” skills, both in person and over the phone, secured through retail, library, customer, or other public service experience. Previous library experience is desirable.
  • Good work ethic including punctuality in reporting for work, organizational skills, thoroughness in work completion, attention to detail.
  • Competence in computer skills and willingness to learn new applications.
  • Ability to work well with the public and collaboratively as a member of a team.
  • Usual office working conditions. Potential minimal exposure to noise, dust, inclement weather, temperature fluctuations.
  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and talk for potentially long periods of time. This includes using a computer monitor, keyboard, and mouse to complete many of the assigned tasks as well as usual office equipment.
  • Must be able to successfully pass criminal background check.

Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities (Children’s Room Specific):

  • Knowledge of children’s literature and materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with children.
  • Library experience preferred.
