Job Description

Position: Library Technician, Two weekdays from 1-6pm and two Saturday mornings a month from 9-12 noon with occasional opportunities to substitute.

The Willett Free Library is currently accepting applications for the position of Library Technician. We are located at 45 Ferry Road in Saunderstown, Rhode Island. Library hours are Monday - Friday from 1-6pm and Saturdays from 9-12. The current rate of pay is $17.50/hr.

We are seeking a motivated, creative, positive person who loves books and people to fill our upcoming opening for a library technician.

About us: the Willett Free Library is the smallest independent library in the smallest state! We are a cozy, welcoming library that serves a wonderful community. We were established in 1885 as a 'Circle for Mutual Improvement,' and we continue that legacy of lifelong learning by providing books, facilitating access to educational materials, and offering many enriching programs.

About our ideal candidate: our ideal library technician has experience in customer service, loves to read and share good books, is reliable, has solid attention to detail and accuracy, and possesses a positive attitude. Because we are a small public library with few staff members, our successful candidate will have the opportunity to perform all aspects of librarianship. They will work with patrons at the circulation desk, provide reader’s advisory, answer reference questions, provide technical support, process and catalog books, shelve books, create displays, and assist the director with program planning and implementation. They must be willing to make everyone feel welcome, respect patron privacy, and assist with all aspects of running the library - from moving boxes of books to sweeping and shoveling the front walk to making a fire for s’mores!

A bachelor’s degree and library experience is preferred, as is recent experience working with the public. For more information about the position, and to apply, please email the Library Director Jennifer Shaker at willettfree@gmail.com and include a resume and cover letter. Please indicate if you are enrolled or planning to enroll in a library program for an MLIS degree.
