Job Description

The Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records (NSLAPR) division is recruiting a Library Planning & Development Training and Resources Coordinator. The position is classified at the Librarian III level and is underfilling at the Librarian I level. The person in the position reports to a program manager within the division. The Coordinator will have many exciting opportunities to work with libraries throughout the state to improve training options for library staff, volunteers, and boards.

While the Library Planning & Development Training and Resources Coordinator may perform a wide variety of duties, the position’s main responsibilities are to:   
• Develop, implement, and evaluate statewide plans for continuing library education and professional development. 

• Coordinate the statewide training and resources program for library staff, boards, and volunteers. This includes: 
o Working with library directors, staff, and boards to identify needs and coordinate training. 
o Overseeing local arrangements, promotion, and enrollment for training.  
o Facilitating, overseeing, and/or conducting individual consultations, workshops, events, and training sessions.  

• Develop, acquire, and deliver curriculum and learning resources using sound instructional design and learning principles. This includes: 
o Monitoring national trends in library development and current library practice. 
o Providing consulting service in areas of expertise and back-up consultation when primary consultants are unavailable. 

• Support training and resources paid for with funds from the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant. This includes:   
o Evaluating grant applications and monitoring grant projects. 
o Coordinating LSTA grant programs to support individual and local groups’ continuing education activities. 
o Overseeing the LSTA Statewide Continuing Education budget, procuring continuing education related subscriptions and services, and tracking financial expenditures. 
o Assisting in the development and completion of LSTA reports, procedures, and forms. 

• Collaborate with State Library staff to develop and maintain a collection of information, data, and other learning materials in the field of library and informational services. 

• Coordinate with institutions of higher education to provide educational resources necessary for library directors to meet minimum library standards as set forth by the State Library. 


In addition, under general direction, a Librarian III must be able to:   

• Work as an engaged, proactive, and supportive member of a collaborative, adaptable, positive, and professional team.  

• Align strategies and activities to support the statutory requirements, mission, goals, and strategic direction of the agency.  

• Survey assigned area of focus looking for ways to improve processes, remove barriers, and resolve problems.  

• Research, communicate, monitor, and apply relevant federal, state, and division policy and requirements, and assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.  

• Engage stakeholders and provide effective customer service, complaint resolution, and support through kindness, competence, and professionalism.  

• Manage multiple tasks of varying priority and determine a course of action to meet deadlines and deliverables.  

• Apply effective written and verbal communication, coordination, and organizational skills.

Additional Info & Requirements

In order to qualify applicants need to have any of the following: Master's degree in a program accredited by the American Library Association; OR current enrollment in an academic program leading to a Master's degree in a program accredited by the American Library Association and two years of paraprofessional library experience; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university which included 21 semester credits in library studies and two years of paraprofessional library experience; OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university which included 21 semester credits in library studies and four years of paraprofessional library experience; OR graduation from high school or equivalent; 21 semester credits in library studies; and seven years of paraprofessional library experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above which included 21 semester credits in library studies.
