Denver Public Library (DPL) is a growing urban library system that serves the residents of the City & County of Denver. ABOUT OUR TEAM

The Special Collections and Archives (SCA) unit at Denver Public Library comprises two archival repositories: Western History and Genealogy at the Central Library, and the African American Research Library at Blair-Caldwell Library. Our team of over twenty-five librarians, archivists and paraprofessionals are committed to exceptional access, preservation and customer service for our world class collections.

ABOUT THE POSITION

DPL is hiring an Archivist Librarian to join the Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library Special Collections team. You will create positive experiences for library customers by performing professional library work including archival processing and digitization and reformatting of original archival materials. Arranging and describing archival collections and creating online finding aids. In addition to creating and organizing digital files, technical, administrative and archival metadata. This position must also communicate effectively about issues and initiatives with customers, coworkers, and administration. Assists in the development and maintenance of a special library collection requiring specialized handling, security, and subject expertise. As well as conduct research/answer references or inquiries for the Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library.

This position is a part of the Special Collections and Archives team and works with the Museum and Archives Supervisor and Branch Supervisor to create a cohesive and unified department.

For the Archivists Librarian - Special Collections role, we’re looking for someone who have a vision and can create a plan for successful execution and has some or all of the following skills and experiences:

A passion for archives and special collections work in a public library setting with preference for a knowledge about or interest in United States and American Western history with an preferred emphasis on African American history.

Experience with Archivals, Library Science, and/or Museum Studies preferred

Excellent organizational skills and an ability to manage multiple projects at once with an attention to detail and strong stakeholder communication.

Strong writing, communication and customer service skills.

Ability to use workplace technology effectively including email, calendar, internet, video conferencing, searching databases, creating spreadsheets. 

Ability to demonstrate initiative, innovation and flexibility, including proposing process improvements; work well under pressure and meet deadlines and have excellent problem solving skills.

Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, positive attitude, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community members

We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements will be considered:

Master’s Degree in Library Science, Museum Studies, or a related field preferred

One (1) to Three (3) years of  work experience in a library, archive, or museum. Experience with various library databases and management systems including ArchivesSpace, and CONTENTdm preferred. 

Experience with archival preservation best practices and knowledge of various analog audio and visual media types preferred.
