We are hiring an Outreach Coordinator to take books and library services around town to schools, businesses, and special events. This position reports to the Deputy Director and works closely with library staff and community partners to determine where, when, and what we bring on our bookmobile, Dottie.

Our Outreach Coordinator will:

  • Manage and develop the library’s outreach program with a focus on promoting the Dottie collection, community resources, and topics and programs of interest in conjunction with other library departments.
  • Work with outreach sites and potential sites for scheduling Dottie stops, including selecting site-specific materials and programming.
  • Manage and cultivate existing relationships with partner organizations and community stakeholders.
  • Work with departmental supervisors to staff Dottie stops and events. 
  • Drive (or learn to drive) a 27' box truck to outreach event sites.
  • Train outreach staff and volunteers, including how to drive the truck.
  • Manage outreach budget, including working with our Friends and Foundation to secure funding for Dottie programming.
  • Work with the Marketing department to publicize outreach endeavors.
  • Collect and develop outreach evaluation methods using patron surveys and circulation statistics.


Required Skills

  • Great patron service skills and experience working with underserved and/or marginalized communties
  • A clean driving record and a valid driver’s license in the state of Kansas
  • Knowledge of basic library functions like materials check out, and how to use a library card
  • Fantastic written and oral communication skills


Preferred skills

  • Spanish speaker 
  • Knowledge of collection management techniques, including knowledge of integrated library systems
  • Knowledge of G-suite
  • Some graphic design skill-knowledge of Canva or Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator
  • Knowledge of social media platforms


Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and moderate experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

This is a 40 hour per week, exempt position and the salary is $56,566.49. The weekly schedule is Tuesdays through Saturdays, including some evening shifts for occasional night events.
