Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

This is a part-time, 20-hour per week position.

The Englewood Public Library, located just south of the City of Denver, serves a diverse community of patrons including the 33,000 citizens of Englewood CO and visitors from surrounding areas. We are situated next to a light rail stop and RTD bus station, on the first floor of the Englewood Civic Center.

As a Library Associate, you will provide direct customer service to patrons, connecting them to resources, programs, and services. You will work as part of a collaborate time, attending to patrons at both the circulation and reference desks. Circulation tasks include responding to patron needs, materials check in/out, payment processing, and shelving of materials. Reference desk tasks include answering patron questions, assisting with computer use, promoting library programs and services, and shelving of materials.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to:  Patron Experience or Adult Services Librarian

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The assigned duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the list below. Assignments may be modified with additions, deletions, or changes as necessary.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Assists patrons in identifying, locating, and using library and information resources including print, non-print, and digital resources, in person and by phone.

In both the public computer area and designated Technology Lab, assists patrons with use of computers and personal devices to access information sources and digital materials and effectively utilize common applications. 

Instructs patrons in the use of copier/printer/scanner machines.

Provides information on use and reservation of study rooms and meeting rooms. Accepts payments for use.

Performs all circulation functions, including completing new account registration, updating patron accounts, checking materials in/out, assist patrons with self-checkout, answer general questions in person and by phone.

Shelving materials throughout library.

Other Duties & Responsibilities

Assist with planning and delivery of programs, story times, and special services such as readers’ advisory, career assistance, technology training or outreach to the community.

Assist with promotion and marketing of library materials, services, and programs, including display and merchandising of the collection.

Process incoming and outgoing materials for courier service.

Contribute to the upkeep of public library website and internal web pages.

May work with volunteers.

Performs other duties as assigned and required.

 

PREPARATION AND TRAINING

Education:  Two years of college-level coursework. Completed bachelor’s degree preferred.

Work Experience:  Two years of customer service experience; library and/or bookstore experience preferred.

Certifications and/or Licensures: None

Required Driver’s License: None

An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted.

Knowledge

Basic knowledge of:

  • Public library mission and function
  • Reference interview techniques
  • Customer Service standards
  • General computer and internet usage
  • Microsoft Office applications
  • Standard office equipment including copiers and printers

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability and interest in working with people and diverse populations.
  • Excellent attention to detail to ensure accurate data entry and records management.
  • Proficient instruction skills in the use of online library catalog, general computer use, various online resources and/or applications.
  • Excellent communication skills with library patrons.
  • Strong ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new procedures.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed in a standard library environment, requiring standing and walking for extended periods of time.    Must be able to push and pull a full book cart (up to 20 lbs/force) and perform occasional lifting (up to 30 lbs).

$16.80 - 25.20/hour
