Job Description

This is a professional position with supervisory and planning responsibilities under the direction of the Deputy Director of Youth Services.  The Manager of Youth Branch Services position will primarily have responsibility for overseeing four neighborhood public library branches, which are located within public elementary schools, but may be assigned to perform some management functions in collaboration with the Manager of Youth Services at the Main Library. This position develops and maintains a network of positive partnerships with the schools, teachers, families, other branches, and community.  The ideal person in this position will possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills and have experience working with diverse populations in an urban community. Schedule may include evening and weekend hours.

Additional Info & Requirements

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE

·         Master’s Degree in Library Science, including graduate credit in children’s services, from a library school accredited by the American Library Association or approved by the Massachusetts Board of Library

·         Access to reliable transportation and the ability to travel to required locations

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·         Ability to successfully pass CORI/SORI

Preferred Qualifications

·         Two (2) years of professional public library work with broad working knowledge of reference practices in public libraries

·         Two (2) years’ experience with planning, developing, and executing innovative programming for children and teens. Demonstrated understanding of youth development and knowledge of literature for children and teens

·         Two (2) years of supervisory experience
