Job Description

As a member of the Library Education, Research, and Outreach department, this benefits-eligible position will support both Library- and IT-related customer support and will oversee the LARC facility evenings and weekends including providing reference services; providing tier 1 IT support; overseeing circulation services; and serving as building supervisor. The position will open and close the LARC building during assigned shifts, which will be mostly evenings and/or weekends.  

Perform other duties as assigned.

Primary Duties:

Provide reference services

  • Provide one-on-one assistance at reference desk
  • Provide virtual reference services
  • Perform specialized database searching as needed
  • Assist with data gathering and statistics as needed
  • Assist with other reference duties as assigned
  • Oversee Reference work-study students during assigned shifts
  • Oversee LINC students during assigned shifts
  • Carry out weekend and evening procedures when integrated library system or campus network is down.
  • Give input and suggestions for improvement of departmental policies and procedures

Serve as building supervisor during assigned reference shifts

  • Oversee opening and closing building using proper procedures
  • Maintain building security, in accordance with Library policies and procedures
  • Report any building or patron issues, including policy violations

Oversee student workers

  • Provide backup for student workers throughout the building
  • Support student supervisors if issues arise
  • Report student absences to supervisors so that substitutes can be found

Provide IT Support

  • Monitor/answer/respond to IT Solutions Center phones, emails, and walk-up customers with excellent customer service.
  • Track all interactions in the ticketing system and ensure all issues, projects, and tasks are triaged appropriately.

Oversee Circulation Services

  • Oversee Circulation Level II Students to ensure that circulation and reserve services are provided in accord with the department’s policies and procedures
  • Serve as back-up for Level II Students, answering questions or solving problems as necessary
  • Mediate any problems that may arise with patrons at the circulation desk if needed
  • Give input and suggestions for improvement of departmental policies and procedures
  • Assist with other circulation duties as assigned
  • Assist with routine interlibrary loan duties as assigned

This position is benefits-eligible.

Hourly Rate:
$18.23 - $25.53 hourly
Although the full hourly range for this position is provided, appointments are typically made at or near the range minimum.

Anticipated hours:
It is projected that this position will have 0-20 hours per week, with fewer hours during the summer break and some weeks with 0 hours (between academic semesters).
