Job Description

The Massachusetts Library System (MLS) is looking to hire an experienced Communications Manager to lead our communications and marketing efforts.  This is a full time (37.5 hours per week) exempt position, based out of either our Marlborough or Northampton, MA office.  Visit our website for the full position description: https://masslibsystem.org/blog/2023/09/27/opening-for-communications-manager/

Position

Reporting directly to the MLS Consulting and Training Services Director, the Communications Manager is responsible for creating a robust marketing system to support the Massachusetts Library System’s work in serving over 1500 library members across the Commonwealth. Work will include awareness campaigns, partnerships, and all other communications activities including social media, website updates and news releases. The incumbent will work with a high degree of independence, while working closely with staff across all departments. The Communications Manager will also collaborate with MLS staff, members, and representatives of partnering organizations.

Qualifications

Required

* Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, or relevant field
* Experience: minimum three year’s relevant experience
* Team player with excellent interpersonal skills, including a courteous, cooperative, and flexible attitude
* Strong customer service orientation
* Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail
* Strong project management, time management, and prioritization skills, and ability to manage workflows during both busy and slow periods
* Solid knowledge of Microsoft and Mac office platforms as well as web-based tools
* Demonstrated commitment to incorporating the tenets of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility into their work

Desirable

* Knowledge of libraries and their missions
* Not-for-profit experience
* Master’s Degree in related field

Position Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

* Design, implement, and manage a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy that supports MLS’s mission, strategic plan, and core values
* Coordinate the implementation and maintenance of MLS’ branding guidelines
* Monitor MLS communications and marketing activities for uniformity in message, voice, templates, tag lines, and logo usage
* Produce, proofread, and edit copy for a variety of internal and external marketing and communications vehicles including websites, social media, and email lists
* Participate in the collection, review, analysis, and reporting of relevant data and metrics for marketing and communications initiatives and MLS’ programs and services
* Build strategic relationships and work with key stakeholders, members, and collaborators.
* Create physical and virtual materials in support of MLS’s programs, services, and communications, including annual reports, announcements, newsletters, social media posts, and event materials
* Attend library conferences and events as a sponsor, exhibitor, or representative of MLS
* Stay current on communications and marketing best practices and technologies
* Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

The position requires light to moderate physical effort demanded when performing functions under typical office and computer use conditions. Light to moderate physical effort and stamina required for occasional travel and transport of work related materials and equipment to meeting and training sites. The successful candidate must be able to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Will work from either MLS office (western or eastern) as well as commute throughout the state. May have the option of working from home in consultation with the Supervisor. MLS telecommuters must meet connectivity and equipment standards.

Must possess a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License valid for use in Massachusetts and provide the means of transportation to fulfill job duties throughout Massachusetts and attend relevant meetings.

Candidates must be eligible for permanent employment in the United States, and appointments are subject to a criminal background check.

Compensation

This position is exempt under the wage and overtime provisions of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act.

Position Grade – 11 Exempt
Hiring Range: $71,724-74,000
Full Salary Range: $ 59,777-83,692
