Job Description
Under the direction of the Adult Services Coordinator. Sanibel Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic librarian to help lead and support the delivery of the various services offered at Sanibel Public Library, including reference, reader’s advisory, interlibrary loan, and archives. The ideal candidate will have strong customer service skills, work well as a member of a team, and will work to form strong partnerships with the Sanibel and Lee County communities.

Essential Duties:
- Staffs public service desks and provides excellent customer service; assists a diverse audience of library users in locating and selecting materials.
- Assists users with a variety of resources, including instruction in using the Library’s catalog, electronic databases, and technology. Provides reference services to patrons via in-person questions, phone, and chat.
- Assists with archives projects, including scanning, uploading, and maintaining the Library’s digital archive.
- Staffs children and young adult section as needed, assists in the development and delivery of programs for all areas of the Library.
- Assists with collection management and weeding projects, selecting and acquisitions of library materials.
- Maintains an understanding of library practices and trends; exhibits a commitment to continuing education through regional and national library interest groups and associations; supports the Mission and Strategic Plan of the Sanibel Public Library District.
- Communicates effectively with Library staff and leads in selected interdepartmental projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required:
- A Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association-accredited program; new graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Experience working with the public and providing customer service to a diverse audience.
- Some evening, weekend, and special events work is required. The library is open 9-8 Monday and Thursday, 9-5 Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.
Preferred:
- Experience working with integrated library systems, downloading and streaming services such as Libby, Hoopla, and Kanopy.
- Experience creating, planning, and implementing library programming for both children and adults.
- Knowledge of library collection development; collection assessment and selecting materials
- Previous work experience in an archive or special collections, or equivalent coursework
