Job Description

The University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries seeks an enthusiastic, innovative, and flexible professional to join the Libraries’ faculty as an Engineering Research and Instruction Librarian. The successful candidate will possess a forward-looking, experimental, service-oriented philosophy of librarianship and will approach work and colleagues with excitement, grace, earnestness, and humor. The person in this position will continually seek to improve services, collections, policies, and procedures by diagnosing patrons’ information needs, prescribing solutions, evaluating their efficacy, and revising accordingly. The Engineering Research and Instruction Librarian supervises one FTE staff member and provides and helps manage the library’s reference services, which include in-person, email, phone, and chat reference. This position also assists in providing instruction in the library, the classroom, and through the use of technologies, such as streaming videos and course management systems. This librarian also serves patrons through effective webpage design, assessment, and maintenance, as well as by experimenting with and assessing the value of emerging technologies. This is a tenure-stream faculty position reporting to the Faculty Director of the Gemmill Engineering Library. Significant parts of the responsibilities of this position are research and creative work and service in keeping with the tenure standards of the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Appointment and Salary The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time (12 month), tenure-stream faculty member. Depending on professional experience, appointment will be at the assistant professor or senior instructor level. The starting salary range is $44,000-$52,000. Benefits include 22 working days of vacation, ten paid holidays, liberal sick leave, university group health care plans, group life insurance, TIAA-CREF retirement/annuity, and support for scholarly/professional activities. Tenured librarians are eligible for sabbatical leave. Required qualifications include the following: • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school • Coursework and/or experience with library instruction, public speaking, or teaching • Awareness of relevant information technologies • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively • Strong interpersonal skills • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Potential for research, scholarly work, and professional service Desired qualifications include the following: • Coursework and/or experience in providing reference, instruction, and/or collection development for the sciences or engineering • An academic or professional background in the sciences or engineering • Demonstrated experience with technologies that enable virtual instruction such as Camtasia or Viewletcam • Demonstrated experience with course/learning management systems such as Blackboard or WebCT • Demonstrated supervisory experience • An awareness of issues and concepts pertaining to scholarly communications, emerging patterns of scientific research, and/or the information-seeking behaviors of scientists and engineers • Evidence of achievement in research and creative work and professional service
