Job Description

The City of Westminster is seeking a collaborative Collection Management manager who is passionate about collection development, team building, process improvement, archival work and much more. The Library Services Coordinator (Collection Management) is responsible for the management and administration of all aspects of the Library's Collection Management team, including the following: collection development, ordering, receiving, cataloging, and processing of all new library materials, archival and preservation, maintaining accurate bibliographic and authority records, repairing damaged library materials, and managing materials received or sent via interlibrary loan. This position is also a key member of the Westminster Public Library leadership team, supporting library-wide projects and initiatives.

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Supervises professional, paraprofessional, clerical staff, and volunteers within Collection Development, and assesses priorities and assigns work to support staff based on Division priority needs
  2. Plans, organizes, and administers work, policies, and procedures governing the Collection Development functions of the Library, including:
  3. Working with various library material vendors to obtain high-quality materials in a timely manner, and at the lowest possible cost
  4. Overseeing the activities of collection development, acquisitions, cataloging, processing, serials, database maintenance, interlibrary loan, and archive areas
  5. Cataloging library materials using AACR2, Library of Congress subject headings, Dewey Decimal, and Library of Congress Classification Systems
  6. Oversees and manages projects, coordinating with other work groups as appropriate
  7. Performs administrative duties including budgeting, long-range service planning, managing financial resources, purchasing, and report writing
  8. Participates in the work of the Library Management Team, which is responsible for the planning and implementation of the Division's goals and objectives
  9. Consults with Public Services staff to assist them in the development of plans and programs for improving library services
  10. Must possess a valid driver license, provide proof of a safe driving record, and maintain a safe driving record for continued employment
  11. Maintains regular and punctual attendance

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  1. May occasionally assist in providing direct service to patrons of all ages, by serving in a reference, readers' advisory, programming, and/or circulation capacity on an as-needed basis
  2. Serves as acting Library Services Manager as assigned

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS/PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Education, Experience, Skills, Formal Training, Licenses, and Certifications
Required:

  • Graduation from a four (4)-year college or university supplemented by an American Library Association (ALA) accredited Master’s Degree in Library Science
  • Three (3) years of public library experience at a professional level
  • Supervisory experience
  • Completion of course work in cataloging using the Dewey Decimal and Library of Congress Classification System with at least one  (1) year cataloging experience with the Dewey Decimal System
  • Must possess a valid driver license, provide proof of a safe driving record, and maintain a safe driving record for continued employment

Preferred:

  • Experience with other aspects of technical services, collection development, budget planning, and administration
  • Some level of experience in reference and/or readers' advisory services

Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered.
