Job Description
Under the direction of the Program Manager for the National Institute of Corrections (NIC) Information Center, the Library Clerk will provide support of NIC programs and initiatives at the National Corrections Academy in Aurora, CO. The individuals will conduct reference librarian and research services to NIC constituents in the field, students at the Academy, and federal partners in the NIC Washington, DC office.
This position is 20-40% telecommuting with the onsite portion supported at Aurora, Colorado.
Tasks and Responsibilities (not all inclusive):
Compile records, and sort, shelve, issue, and receive library materials such as books, electronic media, pictures, cards, slides and microfilm.
Locate library materials for loan and replace material in shelving area, stacks, or files according to identification number and title
Register patrons to permit them to borrow books, periodicals, and other library materials •
Provide efficient, innovative, and technology focused methods to NIC for the effective dissemination of information and library resources
Maintain subject matter expertise of the corrections field by monitoring corrections literature, public policy, court cases, and various other information outlets
Contribute to the NIC Information Center’s physical & virtual library collection, on-line resources, and bibliographies
Provide access to the library through a virtual checkout system for e-books, audiobooks, and material of interest to the corrections field
Provide customer service to library visitors, Academy students, and correctional leaders through staffing the library’s customer service desk and library floor
Collaborate with fellow librarians, information specialists, managers, and NIC partners on NIC and Information Center initiatives
Provide assistance to librarians the library technician for other services associated with the Information Center to include, cataloguing, inventory, lending, multimedia duplication, and shipping

This position supports a SCA (Service Contract Act) contract; therefore, the hourly wage is determined by the Department of Labor per the applicable Area Wage Determination (AWD). This position is classified as a Library Information Technology Systems Administrator and the hourly wage is $27.10/hr + and is eligible for Health and Welfare benefits and Paid Leave (detailed below)
Vacation: 2 weeks paid vacation after 1 year of service with a contractor or successor, 3 weeks after 5 years, and 4 weeks after 15 years. Length of service includes the whole span of continuous service with the present contractor or successor, wherever employed, and with the predecessor contractors in the performance of similar work at the same Federal facility.
Sick Leave: 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to 56 hours of paid sick leave each year.
Holidays: 11 Federal Holidays are observed (New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth National Independence Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans' Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day)
Required Qualifications:
Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Public Trust certification. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to work with some direct supervision on clearly defined tasks that may be of medium complexity
Three years experience in either a library, academic, or public administration work/volunteer environment
Advance communication ability both written and verbally, to include public speaking
Superior customer service skills and ability to professionally collaborate with peers
