Job Description

The University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries invites applications from motivated and innovative librarians to perform cataloging of government publications. As the largest research library in the Rocky Mountain region, the University Libraries is committed to providing access to all types of materials in conformance with national standards and to advancing the field through active service, inquiry, and participation in cooperative programs. Reporting to the Head of Monographic Cataloging, the Government Publications Cataloger is responsible for providing access to the University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries’ collections, with a concentration on the Government Publications Department collections. The position works closely with the Government Publications Department. Cataloging is performed on OCLC for inclusion in the local Innovative Interfaces system and in the regional online catalog. As an original cataloger in the Cataloging & Metadata Services Department, the Government Publications Cataloger participates in PCC (NACO, SACO and BIBCO), OCLC Enhance, and the Federal Depository Library Program. In furtherance of the Libraries’ mission and departmental goals, the Government Publications Cataloger may teach other departmental and Libraries catalogers. The Government Publications Cataloger is a member of the tenure-stream Libraries faculty. Significant parts of the responsibilities of this position are scholarly activity and creative work and service in keeping with the tenure standards of the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Appointment and Salary The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time (12 month) tenure-stream faculty member. Depending upon demonstrated accomplishments in scholarly activity, creative work, and service, appointment will be at the senior instructor, assistant professor, or associate professor level. Starting salary range will be $44,000 to $52,000. Benefits include 22 working days of vacation, ten paid holidays, liberal sick leave, university group health care plans, group life insurance, TIAA/CREF retirement/annuity, and support for scholarly/professional activities. Tenured librarians are eligible for sabbatical leave. Requirements • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school • Experience in cataloging and metadata provision • Demonstrated experience with federal government publications and knowledge of the Superintendent of Documents classification scheme • Knowledge of MARC bibliographic and authorities formats • Effective oral and written communication skills • Potential for scholarly activity and creative work and professional service Desirable Qualifications Evidence of any of the following will enhance a candidacy: • Experience with a national cooperative cataloging program such as PCC (NACO, BIBCO, SACO, or CONSER) and OCLC Enhance • Experience with cataloging a variety of materials or formats • Bibliographic knowledge of at least one non-English language • Knowledge of and interest in current issues, trends, and emerging standards in cataloging • Experience in a federal depository library • Experience working in a collaborative environment • Demonstrated initiative investigating new ideas and implementing change • Experience using technology to facilitate innovative ways to provide access to library collections • Evidence of achievement in research and creative work and professional service
