Job Description

The University of Colorado at Boulder seeks an energetic and forward-looking librarian to be a key player in the building, assessment, and management of the Libraries’ collection of 3.9 million volumes. As a member of the Collection Development Department this position actively participates in a wide range of collection and budget management activities that directly support faculty, students, and subject specialists in more than fifty disciplines. This position focuses on electronic/digital collections through various stages of selection to end user access. Responsibilities include facilitating negotiations, trials, training, and licenses with vendors; evaluating resource functionality, delivery models, and authentication requirements; and assessing new types of content outside of traditional print and electronic formats. A major role of this position is to identify and analyze institutional data, usage statistics, and other metrics for decision support in a variety of contexts. The successful candidate will participate in collaborative projects and may assume bibliographer duties in an area of the candidate’s expertise. This is a tenure-stream position reporting to the Faculty Director for Collection Development. Significant parts of the responsibilities of this position are research and creative work and service in keeping with the tenure standards of the University of Colorado at Boulder.

APPOINTMENT AND SALARY: The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time (12 month) tenure-stream faculty member. Depending upon demonstrated accomplishments in scholarly activity, creative work, and service, appointment will be at the senior instructor, assistant professor, or associate professor level. Starting salary range will be $44,000 to $52,000. Benefits include 22 working days vacation, 10 paid holidays, liberal sick leave, University group health care plan, group life insurance, TIAA/CREF retirement/annuity, and support for scholarly/professional activities. Tenured librarians are eligible for sabbatical leave. REQUIREMENTS: • Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school • Collection development or relevant acquisitions experience • Experience or familiarity with assessment • Experience with electronic/digital information resources in libraries • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and interact with multiple constituencies • Potential for research and scholarly/professional achievement DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: • Demonstrated analytic and problem solving ability • Experience with data analysis and statistical software applications • Experience working with vendors and publishers • Experience working with an electronic resources management module • Experience with or understanding of emerging information technologies and applications • Understanding of licensing issues • Awareness of issues and concepts pertaining to scholarly communications and institutional repositories • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative service environment
