Job Description

Title: Librarian, Mobile Library Services 
 

Location:  ​Koelbel Library, 5955 S. Holly Street, Centennial, CO 80121​

Reports to: Manager, Mobile Library Services

Hours: Full-time, exempt position.

Salary Range: $55,000 - $62,000 per year, plus benefits

Purpose: Serve as a District resource to provide library services and access to information. Function as an internal training resource and provide mentorship. Develops and delivers mobile library services and programs for diverse populations of all ages.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

40% COMMUNITY OUTREACH

  • Develops and implements outreach service by identifying, understanding, and relating service to community needs
  • Delivers outreach service to diverse populations by recommending and implementing mobile programs and services in order to serve the needs of targeted populations.
  • Identifies community resources
  • Attends community meetings and events to build and maintain relationships
  • Works collaboratively with community agencies as a subject matter expert
  • Develops programs and services in specialty and facilitates programs

20% STRATEGIC PLANNING AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Researches and keeps up with new trends in specialty to assist in decision making
  • Makes recommendations for new initiatives or solutions to challenges
  • Advances professional knowledge and networking through attending and presenting at professional conferences, publishing in professional journals or serving on local, state or national library committees.
  • Anticipates challenges due to seasonal workflow, emerging technology and evolving community dynamics; helps set priorities for adapting to systemic change

20% PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

  • Develops and facilitates programs in libraries and in various locations throughout the community 
  • Collaborates across departments
  • Provides a wide spectrum of advisory services (to staff and patrons?)

10% TRAINING AND MENTORING

  • Develops the knowledge, skills, and abilities of staff by providing training and mentoring in order to expand their ability to serve patrons.
  • Provides wide spectrum of advisory services.

10% DRIVING

  • Drives Library District vehicles to service sites
  • Checks for safety and serviceability by completing inspection check lists
  • Safely operates vehicles by observing traffic regulations and fueling vehicles as needed
  • Complies with Department of Transportation rules and regulations for commercial vehicles including drug and alcohol testing.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • May participate in projects and operations not directly related to specialty, e.g. Summer Reading program, District-wide projects, committees and guilds work, etc.
  • May participate in coordinating volunteers
  • May supply web content for Arapahoe Libraries website 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years' experience in a library or related experience working with culturally diverse populations
  • Master's degree in the library and information studies field. Or ability to obtain a master's degree in the library and information studies field within three years from the start of the program. An application to the library school must be made within six months of the date of hire. 
  • Ability to travel to other work/library locations, as needed
  • Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends
  • Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record meeting district standards
  • Current Commercial Driver's License (CDL), or valid Colorado driver's license and ability to obtain a CDL within six weeks of hire.
  • Ability to successfully pass post-offer physical and drug screens for CDL maintenance
  • Ability to work with a remote team and a remote supervisor in multiple locations 
  • Ability to work successfully and flexibly on a team and across departments
  • Ability to work in a confined environment with fluctuating temperatures
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and to work independently under tight deadlines and prioritize various projects and requests
  • Ability to successfully collaborate with a variety of individuals with competing priorities
  • Experience with culturally diverse populations of all ages from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds 
  • Advanced technology skills with cloud computing, various operating systems (such as Windows, IOS, Android, etc.) and various performance suites (such as MS Office, iWork, Google Suite, etc.) and an ability to learn and apply new technologies quickly
  • Ability to represent Arapahoe Libraries and present information in a clear and engaging manner in dealing with customers and colleagues one-on-one or in groups, in both formal and informal settings

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience driving large sized, non-standard vehicles
  • Fluency in conversational Spanish language

Work Environment:

  • Ability to work in a confined environment with fluctuating temperatures, required
  • Moderate noise (vehicle engines, computers, phones, printers and patron interactions)
  • Ability to work both inside and outside in all types of inclement weather conditions

Physical Activities:

Physical activities required to perform essential duties include:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 25-50%of the time
  • Must be able to move around 50-75% of the time
  • Ability to lift to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to carry up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to push and pull a cart weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to kneel, crouch, reach and stoop 75% of the time
  • Use of hands, fingers, and grasping of books, DVD's are required, with repetitive motion
  • Long periods of sitting, remaining stationary, or moving around 
  • Lifting above your waist, head etc., up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to be mobile 100% of the time and sit as needed; ability to bend, stoop, reach, and push a loaded wheeled book truck weighing up to 100 pounds, 10% of the time, required
